Conceiving a child and exploring the possibility of motherhood is different for every woman. Nicole Andersson shared her journey of freezing her eggs and opened up about how she felt when she finally decided to undergo the procedure in her vlog. Egg freezing is a procedure one undergoes to "preserve her fertility" so she can have children in the future.
Nicole gave us a glimpse of what went through her mind before freezing her eggs. "I was constantly worrying and thinking in the back of my head, asking questions like, 'How would the hormones affect my body?' 'Could I even afford the procedure or the medications?' 'Would it hurt?' 'Am I even capable of handling all of that on my own?' And 'Would I be able to handle the emotional roller coaster that it could potentially take me on?'"
Nicole explained why she decided to finally do it. She realized that it was harder for her friends who had waited longer than she did before freezing their eggs.
"I figured if I don’t do it now, I’ll probably never do it," Nicole said. "And I don’t want to have to look back a few years ago and wish that I did something that I could’ve done a few years ago."
Nicole started off by researching which countries offered the procedure, what laws governed it, as well as the options available per country.
"I also had to think a few years ahead and figure out what options I would want to keep open for myself. Because there are countries that only allow IVF for married couples and have more limitations on single women like myself. There are certain countries where you cannot fertilize an egg if you’re unmarried or you can’t use a sperm donor."
"What if I decide I never want to get married? What if I decide that I want to be a single mom? What if I just wanted to keep my options as open as possible?"
In the vlog, Nicole shared footage of herself administering hormone injections into her belly, something which caused her a degree of anxiety and nervousness.
"The first few shots were definitely the hardest ones but now that I look back on it, it really wasn’t as scary as you thought it was going to be. A lot of it is mental," she noted.
Nicole was previously engaged to her triathlete boyfriend in January 2022, but later on confirmed she was single in September 2022.
