South Korean actor Byeon Woo Seok donated a hefty amount of money to charity. It seems like a usual thing to see nowadays, what with all the celebrities donating a portion of their wealth to a good cause. But for Woo Seok's case, get this: he did it as secretly as possible.
On November 5, 2024, South Korean news outlets reported that the actor generously donated 300 million Korean Won to pediatric patients of the Severance Hospital. His donation is equivalent to approximately P12 million.
Reports confirmed that Byeon Woo Seok personally made the donation and that his entertainment agency, VARO Entertainment, had no knowledge about it. VARO confirmed and noted that it was an initiative handled by the actor and they had no involvement with it. "It is true that Byeon Woo Seok donated. It was done personally," VARO's response read.
The statement they released to the media also included Woo Seok's wishes to keep information about the donation private. "The actor informed the agency about the donation in passing, but this was something he handled quietly on his own. While it's a kind gesture, he feels a bit bothered by the attention it has received. We kindly ask for your understanding as we cannot share further details," VARO told South Korean media.
Meanwhile, a representative from the recipient hospital also expressed their gratitude for the actor. "Thanks to the generous donation, many pediatric patients will be able to receive treatment," their statement read.
ICYDK, the actor recently celebrated his 34th (33rd in international age) birthday last October 31, 2024. Some of his fans in South Korea gathered and created fan events for him. He was also spotted visiting some of the events and documenting some digital birthday ads put up for him by the fans across the city of Seoul.
