The 59th Baeksang Arts Awards—aka the Baeksang Arts Awards 2023—began at 5:30PM KST at the Paradise City in Incheon on Friday, April 28. Sometimes referred to as South Korea's equivalent of the Hollywood Oscars, the star-studded event recognizes the best of the best in the Hallyu sphere—in fact, take a look at this year's roster of nominees! But tbh, we're here for the cute, interesting, and unforgettable interactions between our fave Korean celebs. Who can forget last year's ~*chaotic duo*~ Kim Tae Ri and Choi Hyun Wook?!
The awards ended with 1 million viewers having tuned in to the livestream, and there were so many special moments we had trouble screenshotting all of them!

The hosting trio of Park Bo Gum, Suzy, and Shin Dong Yup reunited! ICYDK, they've hosted the Baeksang Arts Awards together multiple times—this is their 5th(!) year as co-hosts, in fact. We love how Bogummy waited until Suzy walked off the red carpet to make sure he didn’t step on the train of her dress!
They introduced themselves onstage as 'Center of Baeksang' Dongyup, 'Baeksang Icon' Suzy, and 'Face of Baeksang' Bogum. LOL!
Goo Kyo Hwan couldn't stop giggling when reading his cue cards with Kim Hye Joon prior to announcing the Best New Actor. So cute!
IU and Bae Doona are sat together looking like *queens*! We also saw IU stand up to greet Park Hae Young who won Best Screenwriter for Drama for My Liberation Notes. ICYDK, Hae Young was the screenwriter behind IU's 2018 K-drama series My Mister.
During one of their emceeing ments, Bogum told viewers to look forward to Wonderland, his movie with Suzy!
When the Best Supporting Actor for Film nominees' faces appeared on screen, Kang Ki Young (The Point Men) was quick to strike a flower pose, to his fellow actors' amusement!
GOT7's Park Jinyoung (winner of the Best New Actor for Film due to his role in Christmas Carol) serenaded the audience with a special performance, and was joined onstage by Kim Si Eun (Next Sohee), Oh Ji Yul (young Woo Young Woo in Extraordinary Attorney Woo), Lim Ji Ho (The Apartment With Two Women) Kang Hyun Oh (Next Sohee), and Kim Jung Young (Anna—she played Suzy aka Yumi's deaf mother!).
Emcee Dongyup decided to give fans some love through the livestream by having some of their fave Korean celebs interact with the camera man! Ma Dong Seok (The Roundup) gave a cheeky apple heart while grinning.
Fan favorite Park Eun Bin (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) and her tablemates gave different kinds of heart gestures to the camera—and Kang Ki Young gave another flower pose!
Song Hye Kyo and Lim Ji Yeon (who won Best Supporting Actress for The Glory) also threw finger hearts at each other, thanks to emcee Dongyup's prompting! No bad blood between these ladies, that's for sure. *laughs*
Dongyup, Suzy, and Bogum all changed outfits part-way through the program. While Donghyup went for a dapper black suit, Baeksang's Icon and Face wore matching white outfits. Clearly someone didn't get the memo, LOL!
Before announcing the Best Director winners along with his co-presenter Greg Han (also known as Greg Hsu), Lee Jehoon greeted his former Architecture 101 co-star with a sweet, "Suzy-ssi, it's been a long time." Suzy immediately replied with, "oppa, you've been well, right?"
Best Actress nominee Tang Wei read a message from director Park Chan Wook after he won Best Director for Film for their movie Decision To Leave. Meanwhile, Park Eun Bin was literally beaming with joy after Extraordinary Attorney Woo director Yoo In Shik won Best Director for Television!
When it was announced that IU and Jinyoung won the TikTok Popularity Awards, IU graciously let him speak first—and of course he made sure to mention GOT7 and his solo work! In her speech, IU also referenced her movie with Park Seo Joon, Dream.
Park Hyun Sik and Park Shin Hye made viewers gasp with their awe-inspiring visuals—we can't wait to see them reunite onscreen for another rom-com drama, Doctor Slump (literal title)!
After Lee Junho gallantly escorted Kim Tae Ri onstage, the two showed amazing chemistry by making each other laugh—they won Best Actor, Best Actress, and the TikTok Popularity Awards last year, and fans are still hoping for the duo to star in a project together!
When Song Hye Kyo won Best Actress (Television) for The Glory, we were happy to see her fellow Best Actress nominee (and former Descendants of the Sun co-star) Kim Ji Won (My Liberation Notes) cheering her on. Lim Ji Yeon laughed while clapping when Hye Kyo opened her thank you speech with "I received an award Yeonjin-ah. I am so excited now." ICYMI, Moon Dong Eun's mother Park Ji Ah (Jung Mi Hee) also presented an award onstage—and made sure to talk to her daughter!
But perhaps the biggest moment of the night was when Park Eun Bin won the daesang (grand prize) for her role in Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The actress immediately burst into tears, and while walking on stage received a major fright due to the surprise confetti. It looks like Suzy and Bogum were also surprised, omo!
The teary-eyed actress needed a moment to gather herself before she gave a lengthy and heartfelt speech. From "Woo to the Young to the Woo," we can now say "W to the I to the N"!
We can't wait for more special moments in the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards next year! See you again, chingus.
