It's been a minute since we last saw Park Eun Bin on the small screen, but she's been on a roll with award-winning K-dramas—Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Castaway Diva being her most recent hits. There's just something about Eun Bin and the roles she takes on. No matter the genre, she always makes it work.

And trust us, that still holds true even after watching just two episodes of her newest K-drama, Hyper Knife. We got a sneak peek before its release, and let's just say—it’s a wild ride.

At first glance, Hyper Knife might seem like your standard revenge drama between two doctors, but don’t be fooled. There's way more to the story, and things get intense fast.

Editor's note: This article contains some spoilers about Hyper Knife

Hyper Knife: Plot and Cast

First things first—Disney+'s Hyper Knife isn't your typical medical drama. Sure, there's life-saving in the first two episodes, but there's also killing. Yep, this one's a full-blown medical crime-thriller K-drama.

Leading the cast is Park Eun Bin, alongside powerhouse South Korean actors Sul Kyung Gu (The Merciless), Yoon Chan Young (All of Us Are Dead), and Park Byung Eun (Eve). Eun Bin—who took home the Daesang at the 2022 Baeksang Arts Awards—plays Jeong Seok (pronounced Se-Ok), a genius neurosurgeon whose skills and intellect surpass all of her peers.

But her world gets turned upside down with the arrival of Doctor Choi Deok Hee (Sul Kyung Gu). At first, Seok is thrilled to work under him, even becoming one of his direct mentees. That is, until one fateful decision from Deok Hee changes everything—costing Seok her medical license and setting the stage for a gripping, high-stakes drama.

Yoon Chan Young plays Seo Young Joo, Seok's trusted ally. He's not exactly her peer—think of him more as a brother figure who just so happens to be studying medicine too. Meanwhile, Park Byung Eun brings Doctor Han Hyun Ho to life—an anesthesiologist who's not just assisting Seok in surgery but also helping her pull off some illegal procedures.

Jeong Seok And Choi Deok Hee

By now, you're probably wondering how these characters connect to Jeong Seok—especially Choi Deok Hee. So, let's break it down.

Hyper Knife makes it clear immediately in the first two episodes that Seok and Deok Hee are cut from the same cloth. Both are medical prodigies who started studying at 17, both are obsessed with neurosurgery, and both share an almost unsettling hyperfixation on the human brain. At one point, Deok Hee even spells it out: he knows exactly how Seok feels about the brain—she's in love with it.

But despite their similarities, Deok Hee sees Seok as... different. Not quite normal. Her world revolves around studying the brain—it's her whole life. (Starting to see why it's called Hyper Knife?) Instead of the usual mentor-mentee dynamic, their relationship takes a much darker, more complicated turn. And things only get more tense and troubled when Deok Hee suddenly bans Seok from performing surgeries—for reasons we won't spoil. You’ll have to watch and find out. ;)

Seok's resentment and pent-up anger toward Deok Hee had been simmering under the surface for a while—until it finally exploded, leading to an incident that cost her medical license. She was stripped of her right to practice as a neurosurgeon, and was forced to leave the hospital.

Fast-forward to the present: Seok is now running a small-town pharmacy in Paju... while still secretly performing underground (read: illegal) brain surgeries. Just when she's settled into this double life, Deok Hee suddenly reappears—this time, with a shocking request. He wants her to operate on him.

Jeong Seok and Han Hyun Ho

It took years for Seok to master the art of performing brain surgeries outside the walls of a hospital. Now, as long as she has the right equipment and the right people around her—like her trusted anesthesiologist, Han Hyun Ho—anywhere can be her operating room.

On the surface, Hyun Ho seems like your typical no-nonsense doctor, running a small clinic in town. But behind the scenes, he's actually the one pulling the strings—connecting Seok with patients who have been discarded or "given up on" by major hospitals in the city.

Their partnership is an interesting one. One might even wonder how Hyun Ho and Seok formed their partnership in the field. After all, Hyun Ho is firm in his beliefs, often pushing Seok to go back to practicing medicine legally—something she has zero interest in. Despite having the chance to reclaim her medical license or even study abroad, Seok stands her ground, refusing to turn back. In one scene, she makes it crystal clear and exclaims: "I'm happy with how things are right now."

Jeong Seok and Seo Young Joo

Seo Young Joo is a huge part of Seok’s present life—he's almost like a younger brother to her. They live together, along with her three Rottweilers (yes, Seok is a dog mom!). But their bond goes way back. It was revealed at one point that Young Joo was actually Seok's patient—she once operated on his brain, and somehow, the two have been inseparable ever since.

Young Joo is like Seok's ride-or-die. No matter where Seok is or what she's done, he's always there—to support her or, well... to clean up the (bloody) mess she's left behind. But their dynamic isn't all blind loyalty. Young Joo shows mixed emotions towards Seok, reminding her of her morals but still helping her behind the scenes. By episode two, his desperation to save her becomes painfully clear—(spoiler!) stopping her just before she takes another life.

Why should you watch Hyper Knife?

We hope we've said enough to get you intrigued by Hyper Knife—because we definitely are. But if you're still looking for more reasons to watch, then let us spell it out for you: (as cliché as it may sound) this drama isn't like any other K-drama out there.

Hyper Knife is intricately messy from the get-go—bloody, if I must say—but brilliantly written. The cinematography in each scene was deliberate and sharp. The audience wouldn't miss a single flicker of emotion from the characters, especially from Park Eun Bin. Her eyes alone make the show as gripping as it is already.

After watching two episodes, all I could say was: This is crazy. Every character is walking chaos. They have their own motives, their own moral codes—but somehow, the moment they cross paths with Seok, everything spirals. And the big question is: why? You know we're staying until the end to find out.

When and where can you watch Hyper Knife?

Hyper Knife is premiering on Disney+ on March 19, 2025. It will be airing two episodes every week and will have eight episodes.

Make sure to set your alarms as Hyper Knife drops this week!
