Not too long ago, I wrote about the eight things you should know about Shin Seung Ho. It was an interesting article to write because I liked knowing more about this seemingly enigmatic guy. We learned that he was an athlete and a model long before he was an actor. If I'm being honest, I'm glad he ultimately chose to become an actor because the world needs to see more of him!
Out of all his K-dramas that I've watched, I've seen how effective Seung Ho is as an actor. His piercing gaze holds your attention. His baritone voice commands a strong presence. He owns every character he portrays and executes them well. So if you're on the lookout for your next favorite Korean actor, or would just like to relive some of his works, then this list is for you.
Here are 7 Shin Seung Ho dramas to add to your to-watch list!
1. A-TEEN (2018)
Who else is in it: Shin Ye Eun, Kim Dong Hee, Lee Na Eun, Kim Su Hyeon, Ryu Ui Hyun
Adults often look back on their high school life with so much longing and adoration. A-TEEN, however, takes us back into the perspectives of being high schoolers again. Here we follow the story of six students who are still going through the ups and downs of high school life. Seung Ho plays the role of quiet and reserved Nam Si Woo for both seasons of A-TEEN, so his classmates often think he's cold and aloof. He is also a member of their high school's basketball team, which is no surprise given his towering height and muscular physique. In the story, we see Si Woo and his friends navigate friendship, love, their studies, and how they prepare for what the looming future has in store for them.
Fun fact: This is Seung Ho's first-ever lead role and his first-ever acting project!
2. Love Alarm (2019)
Who else is in it: Kim So Hyun, Jung Ga Ram, Song Kang
Think Tinder or Bumble, but in K-drama land. Love Alarm tells the story of an app that lets users know if someone within 10 meters away has feelings for them. Jojo (So Hyun) is a high school student with both beauty and brains. She lives life like a normal high schooler would: studying, hanging out with friends, and even going on dates with her boyfriend, Il Sik (Seung Ho). However, that flame with Il Sik has started to dim and she's no longer feeling the spark. When Jojo breaks up with Il Sik, best friends Hwang Sun Oh (Song Kang) and Lee Hye Yeong (Ga Ram) enter the picture and try to make Jojo's alarm—app or otherwise—ring.
3. At Eighteen (2019)
Who else is in it: Ong Seong Wu, Kim Hyang Gi, Moon Bin, Yoo In Soo, Kim Do Wan, Kang Ki Young
Seung Ho stars as Ma Hwi Young in At Eighteen. He is the class president and model student who has feelings for his childhood friend, Soo Bin (Hyang Gi). Hwi Young's perfect exterior is a stark contrast to the life he is living underneath: his mom is controlling, and his abusive dad would accept nothing less than perfect in anything that he does. The pressure to live according to his parents' standards is starting to take its toll on Hwi Young, especially when Joon Woo (Seong Wu) joins their school and is proving to be everything that Hwi Young is not. How will being eighteen-year-olds unfold for Joon Woo, Soo Bin, Hwi Young, and the rest of the gang?
4. How To Buy A Friend (2020)
Who else is in it: Lee Sin Young, Kim So Hye, Min Do Hee, Oh Hee Joon, Cho Yi Hyun
When Chan Hong (Sin Young) earns the ire of the school bully, school badass Don Hyeok (Seung Ho) enters the picture and saves him from getting beaten. After this incident, Chan Hong, an ordinary high school student who has a knack for writing, begins hanging out with Don Hyeok, who doesn't care about school or his grades. His only priority is to earn money for a living. But when Don Hyeok finds a clue about his ex-girlfriend's untimely death, he enlists Chan Hong's help to get to the bottom of this mystery. In exchange for being the latter's personal bodyguard, Don Hyeok and Chan Hong try to uncover the truth, but not without getting into a web of dramatic and unfortunate events themselves.
5. D.P. (2021)
Who else is in it: Jung Hae In, Koo Kyo Hwan, Kim Sung Kyun, Son Suk Ku
All those who are followers of Korean culture know that Korean men are required to serve in the military for at least 18 months. As it is mandatory, not everyone is happy to comply. This is why there are those who try to come up with ways to avoid conscription. In some cases, those who are already in the service are trying to get out of the camp. D.P. follows the story of An Jun Ho (Hae In) and Han Ho Yeol (Gyo Hwan), the two unlikely tandem who have been assigned to pursue the deserters. The show also gives us a peek into the kind of activities that enlistees go through on a daily basis. We also see one cruel side of enlistment in the form of a ruthless bully, Hwang Jang Soo (Seung Ho).
6. Alchemy Of Souls (2022)
Who else is in it: Jung So Min, Go Yoon Jung, Lee Jae Wook, Hwang Minhyun, Yoo In Soo, OH MY GIRL's Arin
Set in the fictional country of Daeho, Alchemy Of Souls follows the story of nobleman Jang Wook (Jae Wook) who tries to change his fate under the tutelage of his servant, Mu Deok (So Min). Unbeknownst to him, Mu Deok was once a skilled assassin named Nak Su, whose soul moved into now Mu Deok's body. She is training Jang Wook in the hopes of one day returning as Nak Su. We see both evil and good use the power of soul-shifting to their own advantage. In the show, we see Shin Seung Ho as Daeho's Crown Prince Go Won who hopes to one day become a generous king. Seung Ho reprises his role in Season 2 of Alchemy of Souls, where we'll find out whether Go Won will indeed succeed in protecting his country and his title as the heir to the throne.
7. Weak Hero Class 1 (2022)
Who else is in it: Park Ji Hoon, Choi Hyun Wook, Hong Kyung, Lee Yeon
Weak Hero Class 1 is the live-action adaption of the webtoon of the same name. Don't be fooled by brainiac Yeon Si Eun's (Ji Hoon) lanky and feeble stature. At his school where bullying is a constant, it's natural for the bullies to attack those who they consider weak and beneath them, and Si Eun definitely fits the bill. What they don't see coming is not only Si Eun book smart, he also has the smarts to subdue anyone who tries to harm him. He forms a bond with two other classmates, Suho (Choi Hyun Wook) and Beom Seok (Hong Kyung), who only want to survive the jungle that is their high school. Shin Seung Ho plays Jeon Seok Dae in a special appearance as the leader of a runaway group. He appears cold and ruthless as he would do anything for money. However, could there be more to his broken character than meets the eye?
