Known as healing-dols (a combination of the words "healing" and "idols"), kings of live performances, and masters of variety, BTOB’s charm and talent make up the perfect recipe for the ultimate all-rounder boy group that will make you fall in love with K-pop. I was on a beach vacation one hot summer day when I lazily switched the TV on to a random channel and chanced upon a reality show where MINHYUK was a guest. After one episode, I was so curious about him that I googled him and found out he is part of a K-pop group called BTOB.
At this point, I didn’t know a thing about K-pop, so I searched for BTOB on YouTube and watched the first video that came up. It was the music video for “Second Confession,” BTOB’s digital single which was recently released at the time. And in an instant, I fell in love. More than a decade later, the rookie group that got me into the colorful world of K-pop is still standing strong. Now they’re known as a legendary group that stood the test of time because of their talent, their personalities, their brotherhood, and their love for their fans.

BTOB recently went viral because of their “Killing Voice” performance video (watch it here!) which gained them a new wave of fans. So, if you’re new to the Melody fandom, BTOB is short for “Born to Beat” — which signifies that the members were destined to create music, and carries a message of perseverance to make an impact in the industry with their talent and skills. The group debuted in 2012 under Cube Entertainment with seven members consisting of SEO EUNKWANG, LEE MINHYUK, LEE CHANGSUB, LIM HYUNSIK, SHIN PENIEL, JUNG ILHOON, and YOOK SUNGJAE. ILHOON officially left BTOB at the end of 2020 and they have continued as a six-member group.
Leading BTOB is the main vocal, EUNKWANG. His mesmerizing vocals leave a lasting impact on listeners' hearts and his stage presence and unparalleled vocal range never fail to command attention. EUNKWANG's infectious energy, combined with his natural wit and knack for variety shows, make him a captivating all-rounder in the K-pop industry. EUNKWANG is also known for his great personality. There are several stories of non-fans’ encounters with him and they all have good things to say about his kindness!
MINHYUK brings dynamic energy to BTOB with his exceptional rap skills and powerful dance. Not only does he exude charisma on stage, but he also showcases his versatility as an entertainer through his radio DJ stint and acting endeavors. With his infectious smile and boundless energy, MINHYUK lights up any performance, leaving K-pop fans in awe of his limitless talent. His solo albums and performances were widely raved about and had great reviews. When BTOB joined Mnet’s Kingdom: Legendary War, MINHYUK became one of the most popular contestants with his breathtaking visuals and explosive performances.
CHANGSUB is BTOB’s fan-favorite vocal color. His velvety voice can stir deep emotions within listeners. With his heartfelt delivery and incredible vocal control, he adds an extra layer of soul to BTOB's music. Beyond his vocal prowess, CHANGSUB's charm lies in his natural comedic talent and his way of showing love to the ones he holds dear. Popular among fans is his hidden camera video where he protected a “fan” from “her boyfriend”. Recently, he’s also gaining popularity for his love for his dog, Guri.

HYUNSIK is known as BTOB’s “Father of Music”. His musical genius shines through his remarkable songwriting and production skills. Known for his ability to craft captivating melodies, he adds depth and artistry to BTOB's discography. Moreover, his quiet charm and smooth vocals create a mesmerizing combination, captivating fans with his unique blend of talent and charisma. He is the composer of several BTOB title tracks including their hit song, “Missing You.”

Additionally, PENIEL's openness about his personal struggles and journey as an artist inspires fans. He hosts Get Real, a Dive Studios podcast, together with his friends, Ashley Choi and JUNNY, where his fun and laidback personality shines through. He is also a photographer and director. He directed BTOB Blue’s music video, “Stand By Me.”
SUNGJAE is BTOB’s playful maknae (youngest member). His exceptional talents know no bounds. From his magnetic stage presence to his acting ventures, he has established himself as a multifaceted entertainer. Sungjae's honey-like vocals, coupled with his infectious charm, make him a beloved member of BTOB. He starred in several prominent dramas including Goblin, Who Are You: School 2015, and recently, The Golden Spoon. He was also a regular cast member of the popular variety show, Master in the House.
Each member takes immense pride in different aspects of being a part of BTOB. PENIEL expresses it simply but fully when he said that each of the BTOB members takes pride in being a BTOB member. Fans have been clamoring for a BTOB comeback for months and they finally got their wish granted. But it’s not just the fans who are excited. HYUNSIK hopes that the album brings happiness to fans and that they enjoy both the music and the stage performances. PENIEL expresses his curiosity about fans' reactions to the songs.
MINHYUK shares that the recording process for “Wind and Wish” went smoothly without any major surprises and HYUNSIK highlights a fun and unique moment during the production when CHANGSUB and SUNGJAE recorded a short dialogue for the track “Day & Night.” These moments of camaraderie and lightheartedness add an extra layer of joy to the creative process whenever the members work on a new album.

With a tracklist that showcases BTOB's diverse musicality, each member has their personal favorites. SUNGJAE reveals his love for “Your Love,” praising its unique melody and memorable English lyrics. Despite achieving remarkable success in various areas of the entertainment industry, BTOB members continue to harbor aspirations and dreams for themselves and the group. When asked about their message to fans who have been loving them for a long time, EUNKWANG sincerely answers, “Although we’re distant from each other, we truly appreciate it that you’ve always been there to support us for 11 years. We’ll sing until we can meet all MELODY someday. Melody! I love you so much with all my heart.” MINHYUK adds, “MELODY, who’s been with us for so long time! I hope we’ll be together forever. I promise you!” SUNGJAE says, “Each one of us is unique and charming and we become more unique when we’re together as BTOB. We’ll keep coming back to you with various genres of music. Please look forward to us.”

BTOB’s bond with MELODY makes my heart warm. The members and the fans have been through ups and downs together in BTOB’s more-than-a-decade-long journey. This made their relationship with each other and with the people who love and support them unbreakable. No one knows the future indeed. But if there’s anyone you can trust, it’s BTOB.
