***Trigger warning: possible suicide
South Korean actor Lee Sun Gyun has passed away, according to reports.
News reports, quoting the Seoul Seongbuk Police Station, said the actor was found dead inside his vehicle following an emergency call from a woman who had called for help after reading what seemed to be a suicide note from her husband.
On the morning of December 27, 2023, the police confirmed that the man in question was the actor. "His identity has been confirmed," said the police.
The police reported that they found evidence pointing to suicide.
Sun Gyun was known for his award-winning film, Parasite, and his K-drama, My Mister. Earlier in October 2023, Sun Gyun had been subject to a police investigation due to charges of illegal drug use. His company, HODU&U Entertainment, had issued a statement addressing the actor's drug controversy.
"Our company is currently in the process of verifying the specific facts related to the allegations raised against Lee Sun Gyun. We are committed to cooperating fully with any investigations conducted by relevant authorities with utmost sincerity and honesty in the future," their statement read.
