Seize the moment. That's how we should be living our lives, *especially* when you're in front of your favorite Korean actor—SIKcrets may have seized their moment a little too much though!
The reason: Park Hyung Sik was shocked and shy as his fans expressed their love for him—but in a good way! During his "SIKcret Time" fan meeting in Manila last February 17, 2024, the South Korean actor made hearts flutter and eyes swell with tears of joy at the Araneta Coliseum.
The night was young for all of us when we entered The Big Dome. It was quite cold but as everyone moved forward with the program, it grew hotter by the minute as SIKcrets found themselves standing up and asking to be called by Hyung Sik!
Yup, a segment during the event allowed several lucky fans to interact with Hyung Sik. The goal was to help him guess the meaning of a Tagalog word. The thing is, Hyung Sik looked for energetic fans who were showing off their *passion* to participate in the game with him.
It seemed that Hyung Sik found himself cutely regretting his decision as one fan took him by surprise. When he picked one Pinay from the left side of the Coliseum, they asked for her name. Note: After Hyung Sik hears their name, he usually says hi then calls out the fan's name.
But one Pinay had a lot of ~rizz~ up her sleeves that she responded with, "My name is baby."
Everyone was cheering for her and waiting for Hyung Sik to say "Hi baby," but he was obviously taken aback by it and just kept laughing! Later on, the fan seriously responded, "Hi I'm Hazel, and I'm single." What a way to seize the moment, right?
Hyung Sik had to sit and pause for a whole damn minute to process everything. He couldn't handle the fact that Hazel was teasing him in a really cute and flirty way. The actor was smiling in awe, almost in disbelief over what had just happened.
"Filipino fans are so passionate!" he then exclaimed (in Korean, of course). He's 1000% correct!
Hyung Sik was tasked with guessing the meaning of the Tagalog word labi (lips). Throughout the game with Hazel, Hyung Sik couldn't help but remark, "I'm so scared," as the fan's shenanigans were too unpredictable for him.
Hyung Sik and Hazel's hilarious encounter was only one of the reasons why we think "SIKcret Time In Manila" was a huge success, not just for the actor but more importantly for his fans. Since we still cannot move on from the event, ahead we're giving you our personal thoughts from the fan meet!
7 Reasons Why We Loved Park Hyung Sik's "SIKcret Time In Manila"
1. We learned so much about Hyung Sik.
It has been four years since Hyung Sik last set foot in Manila for a fan meet. As expected, there were a lot of first-timers at his fan meet, and a lot of new fans, too. So the fan meet really felt like going on that *first date* with Hyung Sik and going through that getting-to-know stage.
After serenading the crowd, the program jumpstarted with the segment "Today Much Information." He shared a few things about his life recently, like how he wanted to do some scuba diving in the Philippines; his favorite emojis are the heart and smiley; the best midnight snack has to be tteokbokki; and that he's into golf these days! He also talked about his current Korean drama, Doctor Slump.
Hyung Sik stars in a healing rom-com drama with Park Shin Hye. ICYDK, the two were former castmates in the iconic K-drama, The Heirs. Hyung Sik even noted that he knew how prominent The Heirs was in the Philippines. But what he also told the fans was that he really did not get to act alongside Shin Hye in the 2013 drama. Unlike now, a decade later, they were almost together in all of the scenes. It was definitely a fun and good experience for him.
2. Hyung Sik is a playful person.
The actor was oozing with charisma from the moment he went onstage. He was definitely a romantic, but more importantly, he was so playful. Hyung Sik knew how to play along, even when fans were teasing him.
In another segment of the show, Hyung Sik was on a mission to find a specific mic among five—the only one without a voice-changing feature. But if he happened to use the voice-changing mic, then he has to keep singing— which he did!
He also played sipa and tried his very best to reach up to 20 kicks for the fans. Hyung Sik was so ambitious, everyone was so glad he made it!
3. His friendship with BTS's Taehyung (and the rest of the Wooga Squad) is the best.
We know everyone's familiar with the Wooga Squad, which consists of Peakboy, Park Seo Joon, Choi Woo Shik, and BTS's V aka Kim Taehyung. Through the years, this group of celebrities have formed a close brother-like bond.
So it was natural for Hyung Sik to mention Taehyung. When asked about the kind of music he's recently been listening to, he answersed "Taehyung-ie's songs." Although he admitted that the only reason he listens to it was because the K-pop idol kind of *forced* him to do so. Their relationship is hilarious!
4. Hyung Sik was born to speak Tagalog.
Throughout the show, host Janeena Chan was successful in getting Hyung Sik to say several Tagalog words.
Among the many Tagalog reactions he was asked to say were: "kering-keri," "naloloka ako sa'yo," "ano ba 'yan?" and many more. Of course, the usual "salamat po," and "mahal kita," were included. Hyung Sik was so charming!
5. Fun fact: Hyung Sik talks to himself whenever he's cleaning.
Hyung Sik also revealed a ~very cute~ detail about himself. During the show, he shyly described himself as someone who does not listen to music while he's cleaning.
Instead, he talks to himself whenever he's got something to clean. He even tried to act out his cleaning habit in front of everyone. Such a cutie!
6. Hyung Sik's vocals were heaven-sent.
Some people may not know, but Hyung Sik was an idol first before becoming an actor. He was once part of the K-pop group ZE:A, alongside other idol-actors like Im Siwan and Kim Dong Joon. In fact, during the fan event he briefly danced to the chorus of their song "Breathe"!
Seeing Hyung Sik sing live was such a nice experience. His love for music can be heard in every song he performed at "SIKcret Time in Manila." As his final song, he sang "Because of You," the original soundtrack (OST) of his K-drama Strong Woman Do Bong-soon. No doubt everyone loved listening to him!
7. Hyung Sik rated "SIKcret Time In Manila" with a grade of 100!
We're claiming it: Hyung Sik totally enjoyed his time with his Pinoy fans. The smiles and the laughs everybody shared with Hyung Sik is one for the books. And for Hyung Sik, it's something that motivates him to return home with a happy heart.
"I'm not gonna forget all the energy that you gave me tonight. You're very passionate. That's why because of you, I really enjoyed tonight. You gave me so much energy to bring back home. You're the best," he told his fans.
His last message for the crowd was simple. It was a message of gratitude, love, and hope—hope that we'll all see each other again, whether through his future projects or in another(!) fan meeting.
"Thank you so much for all your passionate love. I see that you have a great response when you see Do Bong Soon. I can see that you really love that drama in the Philippines. Thank you so much for your love for Doctor Slump. Now, I go back to Korea. I'll come back with a lot of better projects. I hope you'll be excited about it. I hope to create more opportunities to see you in the future. Thank you very much," Hyung Sik expressed.
We too are hopeful to see you again in Manila, Hyung Sik. Thank you!
