Being an athlete is no walk in the park. Achieving success in sports demands unparalleled discipline, mental fortitude, and humility—qualities essential for turning an Olympic dream into reality. While it might be easy to assume that the life of an athlete revolves solely around training and competition, many have proven otherwise by branching out into diverse fields.

These women demonstrated that their talents extend far beyond the athletic arena, seamlessly transitioning from the spotlight of sports to the limelight of entertainment and media.

1. Alyssa Valdez

Alyssa Valdez has always been the "Phenom" on and off the screen. Alyssa began her journey as a standout player in high school, leading the UST Tigress Cubs to three consecutive UAAP titles and earning MVP honors. Her collegiate career at Ateneo was equally stellar, where she helped the Lady Eagles clinch back-to-back championships in Season 76 and Season 77 while earning the league MVP title.

Transitioning to the professional scene, she made waves with teams like BaliPure, Bureau of Customs, and Thailand’s 3BB Nakornont, before joining the Creamline Cool Smashers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

But aside from the MVP career, she also ventured into showbiz and joined Pinoy Big Brother  "Kumunity Season 10” as a housemate.

2. Gretchen Ho

Gretchen Ho has consistently demonstrated her wit and strength, embodying the spirit of a "Woman in Action" throughout her career. Starting as an entertainment and sports news presenter, she transitioned into broadcasting and ventured into hosting and showbiz. Currently, she is a prominent news anchor for One News, where she also produces insightful documentaries and reporting series on critical national issues, including the West Philippine Sea.

Before making her mark in television and broadcasting, Gretchen was a key player for the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball competitions during Seasons 74 and 75. She further showcased her skills professionally with the Petron Blaze Spikers in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL), contributing significantly to their victory in the 2014 Grand Prix Conference.

3. Christine Jacob

Christine Jacob-Sandejas initially made a splash as a remarkable swimmer, representing the Philippines in four events at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Her achievements included a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore in 1983, followed by Olympic competition in the 100m and 200m Freestyle and the 100m and 200m Backstroke events.

In the 1990s, Christine transitioned from sports to the entertainment world, beginning as a co-host on "Eat Bulaga" and gaining popularity as an EB Dabarkads. Peaking in her television career, she joined PTV as a newscaster and later joined the cast of "Magandang Tanghali Bayan" on ABS-CBN.

After stepping back from the limelight in 2001, Christine made a return to television with her own show, "Mobile Kusina," on GMA Network, which aired until early 2007.

4. Michele Gumabao

Don't be fooled by her name—yes, Michele Gumabao is indeed related to Marco Gumabao; they are siblings. Before venturing into showbiz, Michele was a key player for the De La Salle University Lady Spikers volleyball team. Following her successful collegiate career, she joined the Premier Volleyball League alongside Alyssa Valdez.

Michele's popularity soared when she joined Pinoy Big Brother: “All In in 2014,” earning the nickname "Spunky Spiker" of Quezon City. Beyond her dedication to volleyball, Michele also made her mark in national pageants. She competed in Binibining Pilipinas on March 18, 2018, winning the Miss Globe Philippines title and finishing as a Top 15 Semi-Finalist.

Her pageantry journey continued to flourish in 2020 when she represented Quezon City in Miss Universe Philippines, where she secured the position of Second Runner-Up.

5. Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski

Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski is well-known for her infectious smile on TV, thanks to her successful career as a host and an actress once paired with Aga Muhlach and Cesar Montano. However, she has also impressed many beyond her TV appearances and endorsements. Mikee is a multi-sport athlete, excelling in equestrian, basketball, and golf. She won gold and silver medals at the 2002 Asian Games and has held significant roles in sports administration, including director and secretary-general of the Philippine Equestrian Federation. In 2022, she was honored as the Philippine Sportswriters Association Sportswoman of the Year.
