Who is eligible for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program (For Filipinos)?

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Hold Filipino citizenship (excluding dual citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or those currently studying in the U.S.)
  • Be proficient in English
  • Hold a college degree with a strong academic record in their field of specialization
  • Have at least two years of professional work experience (excluding college assistantships)
  • Be in good health to pursue studies in the U.S.

Non-degree doctoral dissertation applicants must submit additional proof that their research materials are unavailable in the Philippines but accessible in the U.S. Additionally, all Fulbright scholars are required to return to the Philippines immediately after completing their studies.

Are all fields of study eligible for the scholarship?

Not all academic programs qualify under the FFSP, but a wide range of fields are eligible—especially those related to your undergraduate degree. Fulbright prioritizes three main categories of study:

  • Study of the United States: Whether you're fascinated by American history, pop culture, or politics, this category lets you dig deep into subjects like law, education, economics, literature, and the arts.
  • Global Issues: If you're passionate about making an impact on a global scale, this one's for you. Think environmental studies, human rights, governance, peace and conflict resolution, international relations, global business and economics, international law, public health, and even STEM fields tackling today's biggest challenges.
  • Open Grants:  Got a field of study that doesn't quite fit into the first two categories? You might still be eligible! Just note that medicine, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, clinical psychology, medical technology, and accountancy aren't included.
