Having served as Barack Obrama's Vice President, Biden and the restof his family have been in the spotlight for years now. But among his children, it's his youngest, Ashley Biden, who's been living a more private life. Here's what we know about the president-elect's youngest daughter.

  1. She is very close to her father.

Ashley is Joe Biden's second daughter. His first daughter, Naomi, died tragically in a car accident with his first wife, Neilia. Five years after their deaths, Joe married Dr. Jill Biden in 1977 and Ashley was born in 1981. Of her passion for activism, she told DelawareToday, "I was always a mediator, and couldn't stand someone getting made fun of or being bullied as a young girl. My dad always taught me that silence is complicity, and that I must stand up for anyone who was being treated unfairly. That has stayed with me through adulthood, and is the guiding principle in my professional life."

  2. She's also passionate about social work.

Ashley majored in cultural anthropology at Tulane University, but after college, she didn't know what she wanted to do so she became a waitress at a pizza place. Eventually, Ashley worked as clinical support staff at a children’s mental health clinic for four years before pursuing a master's in social work. In 2014, she became executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice.

In 2017, Ashley told Glamour that it's in her DNA because her dad is a public servant and her mom was a public school teacher: "When I was a kid, I always really loved animals, and I found out that Bonne Bell lip gloss was testing on animals, so I organized my school to start writing letters to [the company]. Then I became obsessed with the plight of dolphins getting stuck in tuna nets. My dad connected me with Congressman Barbara Boxer, who I nicknamed the 'dolphin lady,' and she got me onto the floor to help lobby Republican congressman for The Dolphin Protection Consumer Information Act."

  3. She has a fashion brand called Livelihood.

Ashley has also contributed to the world of fashion, having launched Livelihood in 2017. Describing herself as a "jeans-and-T-shirt kinda gal," it's no wonder Livelihood focused on making hoodies, an item connected to "American laborers and more recently to Black Lives Matter." She told ELLE, "Livelihood is specifically about income inequality. And racial inequality and income inequality are directly related."

  4. She and her siblings are very close.

Her mom Jill told DelawareToday, "From the minute she was born, her brothers looked after her. And, she always looked up to them. Wherever they went, she wanted to go, and they took her.

  5. Her husband is a surgeon.

In 2012, Ashley married surgeon Howard Krein in the same church where she was baptized. The reception was held at the Biden family's home. The two met through Ashley's late brother, Beau, who passed away in 2015 at age 46 after battling brain cancer.
