Cinemas will be allowed to reopen starting February 15 in areas placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Malacañang, through Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, announced that movie theaters will be allowed to entertain up to 50 percent of capacity.
Places of worship will also be allowed to do the same in time for Ash Wednesday.
According to Roque, "traditional cinemas" are among the establishments that will be allowed to further expand under implementing guidelines from relevant regulatory agencies and their local governments. Other businesses that are included in the list are museums, cultural centers, driving schools, and credited establishments of the Department of Tourism. Meanwhile, there will be a limited number of tourist attractions that will be allowed to restart operations.
"These businesses/industries shall comply with the strict observance of minimum public health standards set by the Department of Health," he further shared.
Some cinemas have resorted to creative ways to screen movies such as open-air drive-thrus and even indoor canals.
