Jether Palomo Is Our January 2025 Cosmo Crush And Fitness Inspo

Introducing your new gym crushie.

Let's be real: We've all had a gym crush at least once before. Maybe it's simply because they're cute (completely valid) and make waking up early to go to the gym a little more worth it. Or perhaps it's because you admire their discipline in staying fit. Either way, having a gym crush is worth it if they inspire you in your personal fitness journey.

That's why, for January, we scoured the 'net for our new gym crush—at least online. After all, a lot of our New Year's resolutions revolve around improving our health but that doesn't mean we have to go to the gym. Even watching workout videos can inspire you to get moving! So, to inspire you to stay consistent in your fitness goals in 2025, we're blessing you with the charm of our January 2025 Cosmo Crush: Jether Palomo.

If you're working in Metro Manila and frequently wade through the traffic in EDSA, you may already know him as the Century Tuna Superbods 2024 Grand Winner. (Those massive billboards are hard to miss!) And ICYDK, he also held the title of Mister Tourism World Philippines. But when he's not busy preparing for a competition, he's juggling a packed sched as a model, content creator, and university student.

In an exclusive chat with Cosmopolitan Philippines, we spoke with the 22-year-old Filipino-American fitness enthusiast on what inspires him to stay fit and disciplined—and what his ideal date is really like. *winks*

Jether Palomo is Cosmopolitan Philippines' Cosmo Crush for January 2025

So, how does it feel to be named the Cosmo Crush of the month?

Jether: Honestly, this feels like a significant milestone in my career. At just 22 years old, I know I'm destined for more, and I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity!

In one short sentence, what makes someone crush-worthy?

Jether: Someone who has the charisma and confidence to make you fall in love.

You moved to the Philippines from the U.S. on your own. How's that been like for you so far? What are the biggest ups and downs that you can share with us?

Jether: Moving from California to Manila on my own was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I came here originally for school, never imagining that I'd end up on magazine covers, billboards, and everything in between. It's been an incredible journey, but with the highs come the lows, and the emotional roller-coaster of it all can be overwhelming at times.

What's one thing from the U.S. you want to bring to the Philippines and vice versa?

Jether: The one constant that I always find myself thinking about, though, is my dog, Toast. I miss him every single day, and if there's one thing I wish I could bring from the U.S. to the Philippines, it would be him.

On the flip side, if I could bring one thing from the Philippines back to the U.S., it would definitely be island life. Nothing in the world compares to the beauty of the beaches and the laid-back ocean lifestyle here.

You're currently making time to pursue your studies. What made you want to take up your degree specifically?

Jether: I originally pursued a degree in physical therapy, but deep down, I felt I was meant for something else. My heart ultimately led me to marketing, a field that allows me to challenge myself and craft unique strategies. The creativity and problem-solving involved have always excited me.

How's it been so far juggling your career and being a student? What have you learned and do you have any practical tips for those doing the same?

Jether: It's been a strange journey so far—one day I'm walking on stage in my underwear, and the next I'm presenting midterms to my professors. However, I've learned to stay present in each moment, which has helped me embrace every experience and stay focused on the goal ahead.

Since we just started 2025, a lot of people are set on their New Year's resolutions to be more healthy. What's the top advice you'd give to someone who wants to really focus on and be consistent with their fitness goals this year?

Jether: "What you're not changing, you're choosing." In any situation or circumstance, if you don't actively decide to change, you're essentially choosing to stay where you are. This applies to every aspect of life, especially when it comes to health.

What's your weekly workout routine like? Are there specific workouts you like to do more frequently than others?

Jether: My weekly workout routine typically starts at 5 a.m. with a session at the gym, followed by cardio. I'm currently following a workout program that's been a game-changer for me, but as for my workout of choice, it's the deadlift. It's not just a personal favorite; it's something I've been able to turn into a global trend that has inspired millions to get active.

Is there a sport or activity you haven't tried yet that you'd like to get into this year?

Jether: One activity I've always wanted to try is boxing. I believe it has the potential to teach me a lot about myself and show me how far I'm really willing to push my limits. I've heard countless people share how it can completely shift your perspective on life, and I'd rather take the leap and try it than live with the fear of never knowing what it could have taught me.

You won the Century Tuna Superbods competition last year. How did you prepare yourself mentally and physically for the contest?

Jether: Every day, I remind myself, "You are your best self when you stay true to who you are, and you'll find joy no matter the circumstances." This mantra has been a source of strength for me, both mentally and physically, especially throughout the competition.

How were you like before and after the contest? What were the biggest changes in your lifestyle and mindset?

Jether: Honestly, I expected the experience to completely transform me, to become "someone new." But in reality, it was the exact opposite. I realized that winning didn't change who I am, it simply amplified the person I already was. In doing so, it boosted my confidence in my choices, lifestyle, and mindset I've built for myself.

How do you prepare for pageants, in general? Are there any routines or rituals that help you get in the zone?

Jether: Honestly, for me, it all comes down to mental preparation. There's a standard I've set for myself, and I'm determined to meet—and surpass—it. It's a battle between me and myself, and that's what drives me. My ritual involves visualizing myself on stage, fully owning the moment with confidence and heart.

You're also an ambassador, model, and content creator—three fields that require a lot of self-confidence. What do you do to stay confident and ready to flash a charming smile to the camera or the crowd?

Jether: "I am, therefore I become." Act and embody the person you want to be, and it will naturally reflect in your everyday life. Own that version of yourself and flow with that energy.

Confidence also comes from self-care right? We'd love to know: how do you take care of yourself mentally and physically?

Jether: For me, a healthy mind leads to a healthy life. My self-care routine revolves around addressing the thoughts and challenges I face, helping me stay more focused. In today's fast-paced world, where it's all about "go, go, go," taking a moment to pause and reflect on how far we've come is one of the most powerful forms of self-care.

Now that we're on the topic of self-care, what's one product you can't live without and why?

Jether: A good pair of running shoes...I've always believed that a short walk can go the distance. The reason is, a clear mind is far more attractive than any physical grooming product, a clear mind is the foundation for everything else.

In general, do you use any skincare or makeup products on your off-duty days? How about during your appearances as a model-slash-ambassador?

Jether: I rely on water, a gentle skin cleanser, and a nourishing lotion to care for my skin and address any blemishes. When I step into appearances as a model, I show up with a fresh, bare face and a confident smile.

What's one grooming secret or hack you think everyone should also know and follow?

Jether: It's not really a secret, but it's sleep. I don't think many people put enough effort into ensuring they get quality rest. Good sleep is crucial—it helps you stay focused and ready to take on the day with full energy.

When you're not busy training or jetting off to projects, what's your day off like?

Jether: A typical day for me starts with a morning workout, and if I don't have homework or projects from university, you'll usually find me at home creating content. My creative side is always active and I'm constantly thinking of new ideas to bring to life.

How do you unwind after a long day or week? Do you watch TV shows, movies, or eat out?

Jether: A perfect day of unwinding for me usually involves building a Lego set with some good music in the background, and if I'm lucky, some great company. After that, I love to watch anime and just escape for a bit.

Besides the standard "guy hobbies" like going to the gym, I genuinely love to read books. A dream date of mine is going to a cafe or a bookstore and just be able to read next to each other.

What can we expect from Jether in the long run? What are the biggest milestones you want to achieve in your career?

Jether: You can count on me to stay strong on social media. While I have many paths to explore in this industry, the biggest milestone I aim to achieve is staying true to myself and growing into the man I aspire to be.
