"I've been so persistent I never gave up on this dream. I never gave up on myself. And I really fought so hard just to get here. So much pressure I could feel it but I gave it my all," said Emma in an interview with ABS-CBN. The Filipina faced tough competition to qualify for the Olympics, beating Kazakhstan's Aida Bauyrzhanova, who claimed fourth place. 

Emma received high marks for the floor exercise, vault, balance beam, and uneven bars in the competition held in Uzbekistan. She receive a final score 50.398 points. Gold and Silver placers Hu Jiafei and Qin Xinyi got 50.699 points and 50.566 points respectively.

"College gymnastics helps so much specially with handling the pressure of gymnastics. This is such a high-pressure event. I practice this so many times so I think I have the mental still down. College gymnastics is really excellent about executing your routines to be the best you can be," said Emma about her gymnastics background. She is a Communications junior at the University of California, Los Angeles.

According to the ABS-CBN report, Emma is a fan of Carlos Yulo. She will join the lauded athlete, Aleah Finnegan, and Levi Jung-Ruivivar in Paris. These four comprise The Philippines' biggest gymnastics Olympic delegation since the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. 

"I am so thankful to represent the Philippines. Just seeing all the love and support and the encouragement it means so much to me. It reminded me so much of back home at our Filipino parties. I want to inspire future generations of Filipina gymnasts but getting this opportunity means so much to me and I can't wait to represent the Philippines," said Emma.
