As we were searching for an easy cake recipe, we found ourselves lucky enough to see this recipe posted by YouTuber Yummy Kitchen. Their Milo Cake calls for simple ingredients—those you can easily find in the grocery! Plus, they "baked" the cake in a stovetop, making it ideal for people who don't own an oven. And since Milo was our unofficial breakfast and merienda drink when we were kids, we're sure this cake will bring back fun, childhood memories. Read on to get started!
How to Make No-Oven Milo Cake
Ingredients:
Milo Cake
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (100g)
- 4 packets of Milo (88g)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup brown sugar (150g) (adjust as needed)
- 3/4 cup milk (180ml) (evaporated, whole or fresh milk)
- 2 medium-sized eggs (optional)
- 1/4 cup oil (60ml)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Milo Cake Frosting
- 3 packets of Milo (66g)
- 2 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 cup all-purpose cream (or milk / heavy cream)
- 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour (to thicken the frosting)
- 1 tablespoon butter (or margarine)
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Sugar as needed
Procedure (Milo Cake)

Mix flour, Milo, baking powder, baking soda in one bowl. You may sift them first to avoid lumps.

Add brown sugar, milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the Milo-flour mixture. Blend until smooth.

Line a baking pan with parchment paper or use a nonstick pan. Pour the batter onto the pan.

Tap the pan on the table to remove bubbles.

Cover with foil.

Create a make-shift steamer by placing a cooling rack in a huge pot. Boil some water.

Place the cake pan in the pot (water must be boiling!). Steam for 35 to 40 minutes over medium flame.

After steaming, take the pan out of the pot and remove the foil.

Do a toothpick test to check if it's fully baked. The toothpick should come out clean.

Scrape the sides of the cake before removing it from the pan.

Place the pan on a cooling rack or plate. Flip it over to get the cake out.

Peel off the parchment paper. Set aside and let it cool.

Procedure (Milo frosting)

In a saucepan, combine Milo, cocoa powder, flour, salt.

Pour the all-purpose cream.

Stir until smooth. Taste for sweetness and add sugar if needed.

Let it simmer over low heat, stirring constantly until it gets thick. Once it turns into a gooey consistency, add butter. Mix until it gets melted with the frosting.
