By now, you've probably already heard the news that Starbucks U.S.A. reversed its open-door policy, causing a major shift in its operations. ICYMI, the change means only paying customers can access their facilities including the establishment's comfort rooms and tables. This new policy sharply contrasts the "open bathroom" policy they began in 2018, following a mishap in a Philadelphia branch.

Apart from that, the new policy also has a detailed code of conduct that bans discrimination, harassment, smoking, vaping, outside alcohol consumption, drug use, and panhandling.

Since its release, the announcement received mixed reactions on the Internet. For some, it's a good crowd-control method and instills proper etiquette in stores. But before you get excited about the new "house rules," Starbucks Philippines has told Cosmopolitan Philippines that the new policy won't affect local branches.

Starbucks Philippines' statement on Starbucks U.S.A. reversing their open-door policy

The Cosmo team reached out to Starbucks Philippines and asked for their statement regarding Starbucks U.S.A. reversing its open-door policy. In an email, they wrote, "The change will be taking effect on January 27 in Starbucks North American stores only. They will not directly impact international markets including the Philippines at this time."

They continued, "Across Starbucks global markets, licensed and joint venture partners operate stores with locally relevant policies. These vary by market based on local law and other factors." To put it simply, although the massive coffee chain started in the U.S.A., its policies don't automatically apply to international branches including those in the Philippines.

They also ended the statement by saying, "We are always working to create the most welcoming coffeehouse experience for our customers, and there is no plan to implement similar changes in the Philippines at this time." This means local Starbucks fans and enjoyers can continue the same quality and service from respective Philippine branches.
