We're welcoming 2024, and the New Year comes with a *new* set of things to explore. You can make 2024 your best year yet by learning new skills! Upskilling can help support all of the ~*manifesting*~ you've been doing for the past months. Change has never been this attractive.
To help you jumpstart your path to a better version of yourself, we're here to give you some ~suggestions~. Here's a list of the things you could try and explore to make 2024 full of firsts and a year oozing with character development! Make sure to take notes!
A quick list of the stuff you should try and master in 2024:
1. Take that language class.
Being a fan of K-pop, K-dramas, or anime exposes you to a different language other than English and Filipino. Take it up a notch by *actually* learning a new language.
Lucky for you, there are numerous ways to learn a language. You can use the app, DuoLingo or enroll in a formal language class. Spot.ph listed a couple of places where you can take foreign language classes!
Facebook and YouTube are also free resources for language training. If you're interested in learning Korean check out Joshua Cho who uploads his Korean classes for free on YouTube!
You can also pull out the big guns and take a certificate course. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) offers free language classes that run Mondays to Fridays. You can find the list of their requirements and schedule here.
2. Learn a life-survival skill—like swimming!
Swimming is considered a survival skill. So perhaps it could be one of those things that you can learn in 2024!
One of the facilities you can check is Swim Central. They offer a Basic Swimming Program for P2,999. The package already includes six sessions which will run for one and a half hours. The sessions will tackle four swim stroke training and two survival swimming lessons.
The good news is that you do not have to travel outside Metro Manila to attend their sessions. Swim Central has various training locations. You can check their schedule and locations here.
3. Get that driver's license—or at least a student permit.
Being a passenger princess can be fun, but we still highly encourage you to learn how to drive. (Some people see driving as a necessity or a form of independence.) Whether you're ready or not, we're dropping here a guide on how you can start your *exciting* journey as a driver in the Philippines.
But first, you'll have to acquire an official student permit from the Land Transportation Office! Anyone who's 16 years old and above is already eligible to get a student permit. It will give you the pass to practice your driving skills on the main road, under the provision of a non-professional or professional driver.
After you obtain a student's license, your rigorous training as a driver begins! You can catch all the details, steps, and requirements for becoming a legal driver in the country here.
4. Don't think, just travel—alone if you can!
Revenge travel will never go out of style. This is your sign to book that plane ticket and take that adventure you've always had on your bucket list. (You've never regretted seeing a new place, like ever, right?)
For 2024, we're suggesting a slight twist to your travel plans. Barkada trips are fun but try going solo this time. That solo trip will bring out the best in you. It will be a chance for you to appreciate yourself more, and to focus on your inner thoughts while still fully enjoying the moment. Sometimes, solo trips could also give you another avenue to meet new friends in new places!
5. Own a new hobby!
We're not telling you to "try" a new hobby. Instead, we're suggesting that you "own" a new hobby. The difference? Owning a hobby is thoroughly honing your skills for that one specific hobby you choose for the whole 2024!
There are lots of things to do: painting, knitting, hiking, biking, collecting stuff, going to the gym, or even journaling. (Yup, journaling is still a thing!) You can also explore photography, even without joining a class. You can just go out and do some street photography, just capture whatever you feel is aesthetic and captivating for you.
6. Complete a challenge on your own!
First and foremost, challenges should not drain too much of your energy. Challenges are made to motivate you to hone another skill set. There are *achievable* challenges out there for you to try for the new year.
You can do the 52-week-saving challenge to have a fun ~iponing~ era in 2024. You can also train for a marathon or get into a fitness challenge for a healthier you! Want to upgrade your OOTDs without spending a lot? Try creating a capsule wardrobe from the things you already own.
If reading is your first love, fall back right into it again by doing the 12-books-a-year challenge, wherein you will have to read one book per month! It allows us to lessen our screen time and of course to widen our vocabulary! Time to alter our algorithm and switch it to BookTok and BookStagram!
Which of the mentioned activities do you see yourself exploring in 2024?
