Goodbye, Illuminating and Ultimate Gray. Pantone's 2022 Color of the Year is here and it's a soothing shade known as Very Peri. The company describes it as "a dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet red undertone." For some, it will look like a muted blue shade; and for others, it will read as more of a blue-toned purple and while that may spark some online debates, we think that's what's special about it. Very Peri is something of a transitional shade-one that sits just in between two distinct hues and shares the qualities of both. And in many ways, that may be what 2022 will be, too: a year of transitions. As more and more people get vaccinated-or even get booster shots-and the world continues to open up, 2022 will likely bring about 52 weeks of new beginnings, of in-betweenness, and of much-welcome change. And Very Peri may just be the right color to get us through it.

According to Pantone, Very Peri brings together the "constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red," a shade that exudes both "a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit." Thus, this intriguing in-between color was chosen to help folks embrace the possibilities ahead and to be open to new perspectives hopefully coupled with a bright future. Fingers crossed!
