It's official: Pantone has unveiled "Viva Magenta" as the color of the year for 2023! The global authority for color communication and inspiration described this bold shade of red as "brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative."
Considering what we faced in recent years due to the pandemic and how that shaped our values and perspectives, Pantone selected an unconventional color that demonstrates a "new signal of strength."
"This year’s Color of The Year is powerful and empowering," the Pantone Color Institute said. "It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same verve for life and rebellious spirit. It is a color that is audacious, full of wit and inclusive of all."
The crimson-red shade features a balance between warm and cool tones. According to Pantone, the "hybrid color" is also "evocative of our multi-dimensional world."
