Interested in pursuing education abroad this year? Taiwan might be a good option. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines is once again providing various scholarship programs for qualified Filipinos.
We've written about Pinays traveling outside the country —whether that was to the UK through the Chevening Scholarship, France through the Erasmus Mundus Program (twice!), or the U.S. through full-ride scholarships.

1. Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Scholarship
Education level: 28 Masters and PhD Partner Programs
Monthly stipend: 18,000 NTD (P31,853.60) for Master's and 20,000 NTD (P35,392.89) for PhD.
Application period: Ongoing until Friday, March 15, 2024

Aside from covering the entire tuition fee(!), the TaiwanICDF scholarship includes round-trip airfare tickets (economy class), living expenses (student dormitories), medical insurance, and an allowance for textbooks.
Interested applicants have to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Provide the highest-level diploma before July 31,2024. Applicants unable to obtain the certificate by this date may instead apply for next year’s scholarship.
- Applicants who have already held a TaiwanICDF scholarship, MOFA’s Taiwan Scholarship, or an MOE scholarship must have graduated before July 31, 2023.
This 2024, the TaiwanICDF scholarship is offering three PhD programs in these fields: Global Health and Health Security, International Health, and Tropical Agriculture.

2. Taiwan Ministry of Education (MOE) Scholarship
Education level: Bachelor's, Master's, PhD
Monthly stipend: 15,000 NTD (P26,544.66) for Bachelor's, or 20,000 NTD (P35,392.89) for Master's and PhD.
Application period: from Thursday, February 1, 2024 to Tuesday, April 30, 2024

The Taiwan Ministry of Education (MOE) Scholarship grants a 4-year scholarship for undergraduate studies (Bachelor's), a 2-year scholarship for Master's, and a grant of up to 4 years for a Doctoral Degree (PhD). The MOE scholarship will cover up to 40,000 NTD (P70,785.77) per semester for the corresponding tuition fee and miscellaneous expenses.
Considering the tuition per semester for international students at National Taiwan University (NTU)—one of the schools listed under the ICDF scholarship)—is 50,000 to 60,000 NTD for a Bachelor's Degree, it's not a full ride. But if you add your monthly stipend, it just might cover your educational expenses.
3. Huayu Enrichment Scholarship
Education level: N/A (for Mandarin Learning)
Monthly stipend: 25,000 NTD (P44,241.11)
Application period: from Thursday, February 1, 2024 to Tuesday, April 30, 2024
Eligibility requirements: International applicants above the age of 18, who possess a high school diploma or above, have shown excellent academic performance, and are of good moral character.
Website: Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship
The Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship allows applicants to choose to pursue either 3 or 6 months of Mandarin courses, subject to TECO's approval. The grant provides a monthly stipend to cover all your expenses (tuition, miscellaneous, etc.) Take note: with the exception of the summer classes, the scholarship duration is from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025.

Note: According to the Taiwan Scholarships Program Guide, each applicant can only apply for one scholarship program among these offerings and must process first their university admission to their preferred university in Taiwan. They also have to comply with and submit necessary scholarship requirements to Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines for review and recommendation based on the indicated deadlines of each program. Applicants currently enrolled in another program in Taiwan are ineligible for these scholarships.
