Here's Why Airplanes Dim The Lights Before Landing

For some people, sleeping during a flight is next to impossible, so when you finally get some shut-eye, you feel #blessed. And nothing is more irritating than having someone abruptly turn the lights on; you feel confused and disoriented.

And that’s exactly why the lights are turned down before landing. If, for some reason, an emergency landing needs to happen, it gives people time to adjust. Pilot Chris Cooke tells Time, "Imagine being in an unfamiliar bright room filled with obstacles when someone turns off the lights and asks you to exit quickly." Truth!

But seriously, that’s actually really sweet. Airplanes worry about shit like this so that even in a worst-case scenario, we can alight feeling like this:
