What is the Cherry Blossom Forecast?
If you're a fan of Japanese culture, you may already know that one of the highlights of spending spring in Japan is hanami or cherry blossom viewing. These beautiful pink flowers bloom for a short period, typically lasting for a week or less.
So if you want to catch the cherry blossoms at their prettiest, you should pay attention to the annual first cherry blossom forecast by the Japan Meteorological Corporation. This document holds all the details you need to know, including when the cherry blossoms will start to flower and when they'll be in full bloom across the cities of Japan. Their next comprehensive update will be released on January 23.

When will the cherry blossoms be in bloom this year?
According to the Sakura forecast, the cherry blossoms may start flowering as early as March 22 in Fukuoka and last until May 1 in Sapporo this year. ICYDK, cherry blossoms need warmer temperatures for them to be able to bloom. They start flowering earlier in Fukuoka and end later in Sapporo.
Here's a quick rundown of when the Japanese cherry blossoms are expected to flower and bloom in 2025:
- Tokyo's cherry blossom trees will start flowering by March 24 and will fully bloom by March 31,
- Cherry blossoms in Nagoya will start flowering by March 24 and end by April 3,
- The sakura in Osaka will start flowering around March 27 and is estimated to be in bloom by April 3,
- Sendai City's cherry blossoms will start flowering by April 7 and fully mature by April 13.
However, these dates are merely estimates and any changes in the weather will affect the beginning and end of the 2025 cherry blossom season.
