While the much-desired document can open up to many wonders the European continent can bring, it can actually carry you to more countries outside of its member states–even in the Americas and Africa!
Below, we pin down the countries you can visit with a valid Schengen visa on hand, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Centre. As always, check with the respective country’s embassy before you make those big travel plans!
Non-Schengen European Countries and Asia
1. Albania
Passengers with a multiple entry C or D visa issued by a Schengen member state, if used at least once in the Schengen area, can stay for a maximum stay of 90 days (type C) or for more than 90 days within 180 days (type D).
2. Bosnia and Herzegovina
Passengers with a multiple-entry visa issued by Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Monaco, Romania, USA, or a Schengen member state can have a maximum stay of 30 days. A total of 90 days can be granted within six months.
3. Bulgaria
Passengers with a multiple entry C or D visa issued by Cyprus, Romania, or a Schengen member state valid for the period of intended stay can visit without a visa, if they first entered Cyprus, Romania or at a Schengen member state. They are visa exempt for a maximum stay of 90 days. The maximum stay is granted within 180 days.
4. Cyprus
Passengers with a double or multiple entry C or D visa issued by Bulgaria, Romania or a Schengen member state is valid for the period of intended stay. They are visa exempt for a maximum stay of 90 days. The maximum stay is granted within 180 days.
5. Georgia
Schengen visa holders can enter Georgia without a visa for 90 days in any 180-day period.
6. Kosovo
Passengers with a multiple-entry Schengen visa can have a maximum stay of 15 days.
7. Montenegro
Passengers with a visa valid for the period of stay issued by Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Romania, the US, the UK, or a Schengen state can stay for a maximum of 30 days.
8. North Macedonia
Passengers with a multiple-entry Schengen C visa can visit with a maximum stay of 15 days. The visa must be valid for at least 5 days beyond the period of intended stay in North Macedonia. A total of 90 days is granted within 6 months with a maximum of 15 days allowed per stay.
9. Romania
Passengers with a double or multiple entry C visa, valid for all Schengen member states can visit for a maximum stay of 90 days. The visa must be valid for the period of the intended stay. The maximum stay is granted within 180 days.
10. Serbia
Passengers with a visa issued by Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA, or an EEA Member State for a maximum stay of 90 days.
11. Türkiye/Turkey
Schengen visa holders can apply for an e-Visa, provided that they will stay for a maximum of 30 days.
Africa
12. Sao Tome and Principe
Passengers with a United States or a Schengen area member state visa do not require a visa for stays up to 15 days.
Americas
13. Antigua and Barbuda
Passengers with a visa issued by Canada, USA, United Kingdom or a Schengen member state can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days.
14. Belize
Passengers with a multiple-entry visa issued by Canada, USA, or a Schengen member state for a maximum stay of 30 days.
15. Cuba
Travelers with a visa issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, USA, or an EU member state. However, they must also apply for Tourist Card (Tarjeta del Turista) issued to visitors traveling to Cuba as tourists.
16. Dominican Republic
Passengers with a visa issued by Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania, USA, United Kingdom, or a Schengen member state traveling as tourists for a maximum stay of 90 days.
17. El Salvador
Passengers with a valid visa issued by Canada, the USA or a Schengen member state. They must also apply for a Tourist Card upon arrival (US $10) in addition to the visa requirement.
18. Guatemala
Passengers with a valid visa issued by Canada, Mexico, USA or a Schengen member state for a maximum stay of 90 days.
19. Honduras
Passengers with a valid visa issued by Canada, the United States, or a Schengen member state can apply for visa on arrival.
20. Mexico
Passengers with a valid multiple-entry visa issued by Canada, USA, Japan, the United Kingdom, or any member of the Schengen area for a maximum of 180 days, as long as the visa is valid during their entire stay in Mexico.
21. Panama
Passport holders with a multiple-entry visa with six (6) months of remaining validity for Australia, Canada, Japan, the US, South Korea, the UK, Singapore, or EU states can stay for a maximum of 30 days.
