A United States visa is a hard-earned document, but there’s more to it than its famed 50 states. While an unknown fact to some budding travelers, a US visa on the pages of your passport can give you access to other countries far beyond. With the much-buzzed addition of Canada, we got to sleuthing: Where else can your American visa take you?
Below, we present the answers, based on the countries' and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Centre's official websites. But some fair caution: This list doesn’t include travelers transiting on a cruise ship from the US, and it’s always best to check with the country’s embassy before you book that flight.
North America (including the Caribbean)
1. Anguilla
Passengers with a valid visa issued by Canada, USA or the United Kingdom can stay for a maximum of three months.
2. Antigua and Barbuda
Passengers with a visa issued by Canada, USA, United Kingdom, or a Schengen member state can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days.
3. Belize
Passengers with a multiple-entry visa issued by Canada, USA, or a Schengen Member State for a maximum stay of 30 days.
4. Bermuda
Travelers with a multiple re-entry visa for the United Kingdom, USA, or Canada must be valid for 45 days after the expiration of a visitor stay.
5. Canada
Travelers who have held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years, or are currently holding a valid United States non-immigrant visa can apply for the electronic travel authorization (eTA) program.
6. Cuba
Travelers with a visa issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, USA, or an EU Member State. However, they must also apply for Tourist Card (Tarjeta del Turista) issued to visitors traveling as tourists.
7. Dominican Republic
Passengers with a visa issued by Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania, USA, United Kingdom, or a Schengen Member State traveling as tourists for a maximum stay of 90 days.
8. El Salvador
Passengers with a valid visa issued by Canada, the USA or a Schengen Member State. They must also apply for a Tourist Card upon arrival (US $10) in addition to the visa requirement.
9. Guatemala
Passengers with a valid visa issued by Canada, Mexico, USA or a Schengen Member State for a maximum stay of 90 days.
10. Honduras
Passengers with a valid visa issued by Canada, the United States, or a Schengen member state can apply for visa on arrival.
11. Mexico
Passengers with a valid multiple-entry visa issued by Canada, USA, Japan, the United Kingdom, or any member of the Schengen Area for a maximum of 180 days, as long as the visa is valid during their entire stay in Mexico.
12. Nicaragua
Philippine passport holders can apply for visa on arrival for a fee of US $50. However, with a valid US visa, they’ll only have to pay a tourist card for US $10.
13. Panama
Passengers with a multiple entry visa issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, USA, United Kingdom, or an EU Member state for 90 days. They must have also have proof of sufficient funds of at least US $ 500 per person to cover their stay.
14. Turks and Caicos
Passengers with a visa issued by Canada, United Kingdom, or the USA for a maximum stay of 90 days.
Europe and Asia (the Middle East)
15. Albania
Passengers who have a valid multiple-entry USA or United Kingdom visa, which has been previously used.
16. Bosnia and Herzegovina
Passengers with a multiple-entry visa issued by Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Monaco, Romania, USA, or a Schengen Member State for a maximum stay of 30 days. A total of 90 days can be granted within six months.
17. Georgia
United States visa holders can enter Georgia without a visa for 90 days in any 180-day period.
18. Montenegro
Passengers with a USA visa may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days without a visa.
19. Turkey/Türkiye
USA visa holders can apply for an e-Visa, provided that they will stay for a maximum of 30 days.
20. Serbia
Passengers with a visa issued by Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA or an EEA Member State for a maximum stay of 90 days.
21. Qatar
Passengers with a valid Schengen, US, UK, Canada, Australia or New Zealand visa can apply for the electronic travel authorization (with a fee of 100 QAR), which is valid for a stay of up to 30 days from the date of issue.
United States Territories
