If you're fond of traveling, then you've probably heard of the Henley Passport Index. It's annual list ranks nations based on the number of countries its citizens can enter visa-free. As of Wednesday, January 10, the Philippine passport is the 73rd most powerful in the world, tied with Cape Verde and Uganda for 2024. This means Filipinos are allowed entry to 69 countries without a visa (and a select number through visa upon arrival).
Although the Philippines falls behind its Asian neighbors Singapore and Japan (both countries tie for first place with access to 194 countries out of a possible 227) and South Korea (second place at 193 destinations), visa-free travel to 69 countries is still a pretty good number.
Here are the top 10 rankings of the most powerful passports in 2024—it seems like the Schengen area dominated the list this year (it's easier to apply for a visa to certain Schengen countries, FYI):
- France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Singapore - four members of the European Union and two Asian countries can all visit 194 countries (out of a possible 227) visa-free.
- Finland, South Korea, and Sweden - 193 countries
- Austria, Denmark, Ireland, and the Netherlands - 192 countries
- Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, and the United Kingdom - 191 countries
- Greece, Malta and Switzerland - 190 countries
- Australia, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, and Poland - 189 countries
- Canada, Hungary, and the United States - 188 countries
- Estonia and Lithuania - 187 countries
- Latvia, Slovakia, and Slovenia - 186 countries
- Iceland - 185 countries
