CNN Philippines has announced the discontinuation of its operations on all media platforms, marking the end of a nine-year journey for the network.

CNN Philippines President Benjamin Ramos conveyed the regrettable decision before employees on Monday, citing substantial financial losses.

In a statement, the network said it will cease operations on all media platforms effective Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Acknowledging the staff's commitment and dedication, Ramos expressed gratitude in the face of the difficult decision. 

“We thank you for delivering news that is fair, accurate, and balanced. You have rightfully earned the trust of Filipinos, and we sincerely thank all of you for that,” CNN Reporter Tristan Noledo quoted Ramos as saying in a tweet. 

Challenging Times For Philippine Media

The closure not only affects the professionals behind the scenes but also raises questions about the broader implications for the Philippine media landscape.

In the official CNN Philippines statement, the network also extended heartfelt thanks to partners, including CNN Worldwide and Turner Broadcasting Corporation. 

“And to our viewers, our sincerest gratitude for your loyalty and trust over the past 9 years,” the network added.
