LOL, netizens are actually arguing about math on Twitter.
"PEMDAS" was actually a trending topic on the social media platform today, with around 13,000 users tweeting about it.
ICYDK (or just remember it vaguely), "PEMDAS" stands for "Parentheses-Exponents-Multiplication-Division-Addition-Subtraction," a prescribed sequence for solving math problems involving multiple operations. It's also known as "BODMAS": "Brackets-Orders-Division-Multiplication-Addition-Subtraction."
A math problem has been making the rounds on Twitter, the answer to which netizens have had strong and varying opinions about.
Applying the PEMDAS/BODMAS method, some people say they should arrive at "16" for the answer. Others, though, claim "1" is the correct answer, still applying the PEMDAS/BODMAS approach.
According to this article, though, both answers are (surprise!) correct. It really depends on where you learned math and how you apply the PEMDAS/BODMAS method.
We sure hope this heated debate is making our math teachers proud!
