Marriage may not always be sunshine and rainbows, but it could help you learn a lot about your partner and yourself. That's how TV host Bianca Gonzalez would describe being in a relationship of nine years with husband JC Intal.
In a recent interview with broadcast journalist Bernadette Sembrano, Bianca and JC got candid about their relationship.
It's quite rare to find someone who would fully support you in your craft, and Bianca appreciates that JC encourages her to do what she loves. This led to her imparting noteworthy advice to everyone. "Choose a partner that will not clip your wings—that will allow you to make your own choices and do what makes you happy," Bianca remarked.
"I think that stems from, me, I'm happy seeing him find something he loves to do and then napakalaking bonus that it's also his job, his career," the TV host noted. JC was a former basketball player and now he is a rising painter, with a couple of art exhibits already.
While for JC, it took awhile for him to get used to Bianca's "workaholic" habits. "Sobrang workaholic nito as in... Na-iinspire ako sa kanya e, pero 'yung research niya, [grabe] mag-prepare 'yan, alam ko na e. Minsan kapag kinakausap ko, wala siyang naririnig. 'Yun that before may inis na ako. Pero now, alam ko na. Go, do your thing... Mas naintindihan ko 'yung linya ng trabaho niya, kailangan niya 'yun," he said.
Bianca and JC have their fair share of ups and downs in their marriage, but it has become a necessary part of them to be supportive of each other no matter what. Even though the couple came from two different work backgrounds—JC as a basketball player and Bianca as a host—it was not difficult for them to find a common ground.
"The plan was to meet up for lunch, whatever, chat. Pero ang ending we ended up parang midnight na kami naghiwalay. After that I realized we clicked and then after that first meet-up, araw-araw na kami nagkita," Bianca recounted.
JC said that it's also an important thing to consider how prepared and healed your partner is before getting married. He admitted getting into so many fights with Bianca when they were starting as a married couple, but it does get better as they choose to both learn from each other.
"Before madalas kami mag-away [...] When you marry, hindi everyday in love... Every day is a brand new day so kailangan pag-usapan niyo talaga. Kailangan 'yung partner mo fully healed na wala nang dinadalang baggages kasi madadali niya 'yun [sa marriage niyo]," JC noted.
Bianca and JC tied the knot in December 2014 in a simple, beach wedding in Palawan. Now with two lovely daughters, Lucia and Carmen, the couple still finds time to go on dates and take a pause from their blooming careers.
