What does it feel like to have a successful career while having a really supportive and intimate relationship with someone? Some of us might have a hard time answering this question because it's either love or career. For Carlos Yulo, he can do both at the same time.
Solid proof of that is his relationship with his girlfriend of four years, Chloe San Jose. The two have been very open about their romance since they started dating in 2020. When Carlos won his first gold medal during the Paris 2024 Olympics, he thanked everyone who supported him in his journey and one of those was his girlfriend.
"Wala pong lumalabas kundi pasasalamat sa Diyos na hindi niya ako pinabayaan. Walang nangyaring masama samin. Matagal kong pinagdasal 'to. Matagal kong pinagtrabahuan 'to kasama Siya. Siyempre kasama rin yung mga staff, si Coach Aldrin, si Ma'am Cynthia, 'yung partner ko and 'yung family ng partner ko. They really support me sa ups and downs ko. Sobrang grateful po ako..." Carlos said in an interview right after bagging his first gold medal.
Indeed, it has been a long journey for Carlos. As young as seven years old, he has been training to be a world-class gymnast. April 2020: The first move
Chloe is living proof that there's nothing wrong when women make the first move in a romantic relationship. In a TikTok video that she uploaded in August 2022, she actually disclosed how she bravely approached Carlos via Twitter. She literally slid into his DMs!
"Hi I'm a fan po. Just came across your account and hindi na po kayo as active like before. I hope you're doing well po. Stay safe. God bless," Chloe messaged Carlos. One look at it and anyone could say that it was just a simple greeting from a fan. But Carlos being Carlos, he actually responded to her an hour after he received it!
"Hello hehehe Anyway I'm doing great here thank you. Ikaw din ingat dyaaan and godbless," the then-20-year-old athlete replied. Perhaps at that moment, Chloe couldn't contain her happiness because Carlos' response was unexpected as she'd describe it in the next message.
Chloe wrote again to Carlos via DM, "awwe I didn't expect that you'd reply and even followed me back. Thank you so much. Have a great week ahead." This sweet exchange over their Twitter DMs occurred just four months after Carlos created his official Twitter account. What went on after this first conversation must have been one heck of a story for the two. Because a few months after, they'd be hard-launching their connection over on TikTok!

October 2020: The first TikTok duet together
In October 2020, there wasn't much to do but to scroll through TikTok. There was a series of lockdowns around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. People were stuck inside their homes trying to wait for when they could freely move around again. For couples, it was a test of love, because even if couples lived within the same city, the pandemic lockdown felt like everyone was in a long-distance setup.
But for Carlos and Chloe, it wasn't a problem at all. After their April 2020 conversation, it seemed like the two found their common ground and fell for each other. Although we don't know all the details, what we know is that on October 2020, Chloe uploaded a duet TikTok video with Carlos as they danced to a viral trend back then.
Her caption was, "PILIT NA PILIT MAG TIKTOK SI MAHAL AHAHAHHAAH HE CUTE THO." That was the moment when we all knew that their call sign for each other is "Mahal," the Filipino word for love.

April 2021: The LDR setup
ICYDK, Chloe studied in Australia. So, from the very beginning of their relationship, the two really knew that a long-distance relationship was something that they would have to endure. This is also because Carlos had been training in Japan, and flying in and out of the country for his competitions.
The LDR setup did not hinder them from creating a love so strong and a bond so close despite the distance and the time difference. In one of her TikTok videos, Chloe made us feel what it's like to be third wheels as she shared snippets of Carlos being the clingy and sweet boyfriend that he is during their video calls.

May 2022: The Instagram hard launch
While Chloe has been sharing a lot about their relationship on TikTok since 2020, the Instagram hard launch happened when they met in Vietnam! Chloe traveled to Hanoi in May 2022, just in time for the Southeast Asian Games, giving her all-out support for her boyfie.
Carlos led the Filipino team in the said international competitions, bagging a total of seven medals. Chloe posted a carousel of super fun photos of her and Carlos after the games. They were laughing in the photos which just screamed how in love they were. She had a one-word caption for it saying, "soulmate." They even wore matchy shoes!
Just a few days after, Chloe also posted photobooth pics of them getting cute and cozy! Chloe again posted it with a simple but meaningful caption . She wrote, "tahanan," referring to how Carlos has become her home. Awww!
March 2023: Carlos greets Chloe on IG!
Scrolling through Carlos' Instagram, we can say that he's a man of few posts. Unlike Chloe who's an influencer, he's rarely online perhaps due to the intensity of his training. But on March 2023, he took the time to wish Chloe a happy birthday. It came with a really endearing message.
A part of it read, "Hindi man ako nakakapag post ng mga ganito ng madalas pero sobra talaga kitang na-aappreciate kaya para sayo to mahal hehe [...] Palagi mo lang tatandaan na nandidito lang ako sa tabi mo at naka-suporta lang ako sayo mahal ko. Napakasaya ko kapag kasama kita, busog na busog yung puso't kaluluwa ko.
June 2023: Carlos and Chloe celebrated their 3rd anniversary together!
The young couple snuck some time for each other and celebrated their third year anniversary at the happiest place on earth! They went to Hong Kong Disneyland and for sure made core memories together.
Carlos posted about it on his IG, "Thank you so much mahal ko sa celebration and anniversary gift! Maraming salamat sa pag dala mo sakin dito." He's not someone who shies away from expressing his utmost love for his partner.
He wrote, "Muli, maraming salamat sa pag bibigay ng time and effort para mabuo yung araw na to. Sa mga sakripisyo at pag mamahal mo sakin lubos akong nag papasalamat sayo mahal ko."
Chloe's IG message was short and sweet. She said, "I couldn't be happier and grateful for you mahal ko, thank you din po for everything—lalo na kay G! To more blessings, travels and goals to achieve with you dada. I LOVE YOU TOO WITH ALL MY HEART." (Also, yup she called her dada!)
December 2023: More digital footprints as a couple
By 2023, the couple became more visible online. They had been spending more time together as well despite them working in different countries. At the moment, Chloe is still based in Australia and Carlos has been doing training here and there.
In the midst of everything, the couple had the chance to still spend the 2023 holidays together. Chloe happily shared their holiday moments over on TikTok. In one of his posts, Carlos also called Chloe his "favorite Christmas miracle!"
February 2024: Chloe and Carlos in Seoul
As the Paris 2024 drew closer for Carlos, he was packed with back-to-back training and schedules that geared him up for his eventual success. He went to South Korea to train for two weeks. Thankfully, he still got the chance to enjoy Korea not just as an athlete but also as Chloe's S.O.
In Chloe's birthday post for him, it seemed that Chloe flew to South Korea to spend some time with Carlos. They even took the cutest photobooth snaps!
May 2024: Chloe and Carlos in Uzbekistan
At this point, everyone can say that Chloe is one of the most supportive WAGs out there. Can you believe that she was also with Carlos during his match at the Asian Championships 2024? They're so lucky to have each other!
August 2024: Chloe and Carlos in Paris
And here we are, August 2024—the moment when Carlos won his first (and second!) gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. And of course, Chloe was also there. She supported her boyfie all the way until Paris! When Carlos won his first gold medal, Chloe posted the *cutest* video of them lip-syncing to a trending audio with his medal. The couple was all smiles—after all, they've come a long way already.
