Love is pretty much the *best thing* in the world. That is, until it comes to an end! Getting your heart broken is an awful thing to go through, and it’s even harder when you have to shrug the pain off and continue working on your day-to-day responsibilities like everything’s okay.
“Been there, done that” is the mantra of the CEO of one hotel in Cebu, which prompted him to grant his 30+ employees a new type of benefit that will let them process their heartbreak: five-day paid breakup leaves.
In an interview with Spot.ph, the CEO named Ricardo Dublado explained his unique aid to his heartbroken workers. "Gusto ko kasi ma-feel ng employee ko na they're part of the family. Even with the hardest problems, gusto ko nand'yan din kami [para] sa kanila. Wala naman pinipili si broken heart.”
The policy took effect just this January and is offered to both provisionary and regular employees on top of their sick leaves and vacation leaves. However, the employees can only avail of it once a year, as long as they can provide evidence of the romantic relationship and its fallout.
"If the staff avail the break-up leave this year, tapos next year magbabalikan sila tas mag-avail na naman siya, hindi na 'yun puwede,” he clarified, saying that employees who are proven to have lied about their breakup leaves will be terminated. Aside from paid leaves, HR will also conduct counselling for the staff to help them recover.
"It's about time to show extra love and extra care to your employees. Kasi isang factor na maging successful ang business ng isang employer is because of their people so maybe this time, na sa pinaka-down na moment nila, maging consistent pa rin si buiness kasi at the end of the day, si employee, kung na-feel ang love ni employer, mag-respond din 'yan with love,” he concluded.
