1. Han So Hee and Ryu Jun Yeol
Dated for: approximately 2 weeks
Among the Hallyu entertainment world’s most drama-filled splits of the year is the breakup of Han So Hee and Ryu Jun Yeol, who called it quits just two weeks after confirming their relationship, citing career as the reason for their fallout.
"Han So Hee and actor Ryu Jun Yeol have broken up. The two both found their roles as actors to be more important. They promised to no longer emotionally exhaust with their personal life," a representative from So Hee's agency, 9ato Entertainment, confirmed in a statement.
Their breakup isn’t the only sour moment in their relationship, though. They were embroiled in cheating rumors after Jun Yeol’s ex-girlfriend of six years Hyeri had the ~*shadiest*~ reaction to the dating news after the two were spotted together in Hawaii. "This is funny," she captioned a cryptic photo on IG, showcasing palm trees and unfollowing her ex-bf during the same day. Oof!
2. Derek Ramsay and Cristine Reyes
Dated for: about a month
Derek has been involved in more than one ~whirlwind~ romance. After all, he married his wife Ellen Adarna nine months after confirming their relationship! But way before meeting Ellen, he had another short-lived romance with his No Other Woman co-star Cristine, a friends-to-lovers kind of trope that barely lasted.
Their love story started around August 2013, and ended after a month, with a source saying it was Derek who initiated the breakup on the heels of a controversy over an alleged sex video involving Cristine and her ex-boyfriend Rayver Cruz. Derek has publicly expressed indifference to that matter, though—and the two never really spoke up about the reason for their fallout.
Not to worry, they ended on a good note—and have remained cool with each other, as evidenced by their friendly interaction last 2019. "Remember the relationship with the good things that happened in it. I have much respect for her, she has much respect for me. So I didn’t feel awkward or anything like that," Derek said.
3. Heaven Peralejo and Kiko Estrada
Dated for: more than a month
Heaven and Kiko caused quite the stir on social media when they confirmed their relationship in August 2022, six months after they were first rumored to be dating. It didn’t sit well with some netizens, who even speculated that Heaven was the third party of Kiko’s breakup with Devon Seron.
A month after going public, breakup rumors started circulating, after Kiko was reported to have unfollowed and deleted all traces of Heaven on Insta. Shortly after, Heaven ended the rumour mill once and for all, saying they had indeed called it quits. "I am single, but not ready to mingle. Nandito ako sa phase na, it’s cliche but I’m just loving myself. I’m getting to know me. I want to learn independence [and] enjoy life. I don’t need any relationship. I just need my friends, and I just need me. I am really happy right now, super happy. As in, walang bigat sa puso ko, nandoon ako sa phase na ‘yon," she said in a vlog.
4. BLACKPINK's Jennie and EXO’s Kai
Dated for: more than a month
Dating news of BLACKPINK's Jennie and EXO’s Kai totally rocked the internet in 2019, given their strong fanbases. However, it’s true that not all good things last—because just a month after they were confirmed to be dating (and that romantic Eiffel Tower dinner that Jennie posted!), their agencies confirmed the K-pop idols’ breakup, the saddest news for their stans. "It is true that Kai and Jennie have recently parted ways. Kai and Jennie will do their best in their respective fields. They've agreed to support each other," Kai’s agency wrote in a statement.
6. BLACKPINK's Jisoo and Ahn Bo Hyun
Dated for: about 3 months
BLACKPINK's Jisoo and Ahn Bo Hyun are certainly in-demand artists, which sadly caused their brief relationship's demise. Just three months after making fans kilig with their relationship announcement, they broke the internet’s hearts after revealing the end of the road for them. "Jisoo and Ahn Bo Hyun's relationship naturally became distant due to their busy schedules, and they recently broke up," stated YG Entertainment, Jisoo’s agency.
7. aespa’s Karina and Lee Jae Wook
Dated for: 5 weeks
The latest to join the whirlwind couples’ group is aespa’s Karina and Alchemy of Souls star Lee Jae Wook, who broke up just five weeks after confirming their relationship. Lee Jae Wook's management agency confirmed the breakup. They stated that the actor chose to end the relationship to focus on his current work. According their statement, the two would continue to support each other professionally.
"Actor Lee Jae Wook decided to end the relationship in order to focus on his work that he is currently filming. The two will remain good colleagues and support one another. They will greet their fans with good activities through their respective avenues in the future. Please show your interest and support."
