Social media is a tough place for everyone. People can say what they want regardless of anyone's pure intention—or in some cases, despite not knowing the whole story. Case in point: Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose's journey towards the Olympics.
First off—we all know that it's primarily Carlos' hard work that led him to victory. But like with any achievement, many people supported him during his journey to the podium. One of his key supporters was, ofc, his girlfriend Chloe. And no, we don't mean by just watching him during the games (still valid tho!). Chloe literally paused her studies and her life in Australia to 1) create an Olympic plan for Carlos, and 2) be with him every step of the way, no matter the outcome.
It was a matter of communicating with Carlos and Chloe. In their February 2025 cover story interview with Cosmopolitan Philippines—yes, us!—Chloe disclosed that she gave Carlos the liberty to decide what he wants for the both of them, particularly how he'd want Chloe to support him. The choices were to watch his competitions, support him from afar, or stay by Carlos' side during his training camps and competitions.
In the end, Carlos wanted to be with Chloe for his entire journey and Chloe wholeheartedly accepted and followed his choice. After all, she was open enough to give Carlos that choice for their relationship. And so, Chloe packed up her life in Australia, took a break from studying psychological sciences at an Australian university, and started working on being an even better partner to a then-budding Olympian.
It wasn't to prove anyone wrong—it was nothing like that for Chloe. By really allowing herself to be more than involved in Carlos' Olympic path, it became Chloe's way of showing just how much she loves and supports Carlos. She was never a distraction. Rather, she was one of the driving forces for Carlos' win.
Chloe and Carlos shared that she created an Olympic plan that included a list of training camps and competitions that Carlos could join in preparation for the Olympics. From South Korea and Spain, to the United Kingdom and Australia, she had it all detailed and proposed it to Carlos' team and trainer. "Kasi kapag ako lang tsaka yung coach ko lang, minsan hindi na namin nakikita yung ganoong bagay kasi araw-araw kami nagpa-practice," Carlos said about Chloe's help during his trainings and preparation.
We discovered that this was one of the many things that many people might not have known about the couple, who became controversial for some supposedly private family matters that went public just as Carlos brought home two gold medals for the Philippines.

At the moment, Carlos and Chloe are going steady as they both grow individually and as a couple. Like any other couple out there, they have their own goals in life. Amid the noise surrounding their relationship, the couple continues to effortlessly prove that their love grows stronger day by day.
For now, Carlos and Chloe are keeping their longterm future plans to themselves. When Cosmo asked him if wedding bells would be ringing soon, Carlos responded with a single word, "Secret," while flashing a mischievous smirk.
