Geneva Cruz got emotional after meeting her ex-husband KC Montero, but she emphasized that she was happy with being single. She can wholeheartedly accept singlehood if it's the path for her.

She shared her heartfelt realizations in an episode of It's Showtime's "EXpecially For You." She shed tears during her guest appearance with KCICYDK, "EXpecially For You" is a segment in the noontime show where ex-partners would be given the chance to talk and find a potential new partner for either of them. In this case, Geneva was looking for a new partner, and KC would be helping her to find the right match.

Geneva Cruz and KC Montero's past relationship

Geneva and KC divulged to the audience and the hosts that they said they fell out of love. It was a gradual "numbing of feelings," as KC phrased it.

Geneva knew that they had different goals, especially when she realized that her path all along was to continue her career as a singer in the Philippines. At the time, she and KC were building a stable life in the U.S. However, she chose her singing career in the Philippines, leaving KC in the U.S.

They tried to make things work despite the distance, but it just got between them. "I think we were better together physically than we were apart," an emotional Geneva said in the show.

KC recalled, "sabi niya, 'Okay this is not for me. I'll go back to the Philippines to be a singer.' So, okay. [...] So magkahiwalay talaga kami. Three months, six months, even longer. At the time, the feelings just kind of fade... It was just hard to communicate." He noted how he supported Geneva's desire to return to the Philippines, not knowing their relationship would end.

Geneva and KC started dating in their 20s, at around 1999. They tied the knot in Seattle, U.S.A in 2004 and parted ways in 2010. By 2019, KC married his current wife, Stephanie Dods, and are now parents to their son, Wyatt.

Geneva Cruz explains tears during "EXpecially For You"

After the show, Geneva explained why she still had tears during their "EXpecially For You" stint.

She noted that her love now for KC is more of a familial love, because after all they had been together for a significant amount of time. For Geneva, KC will always be a huge part of her life.

"People assume that because I cried on national TV, I still have romantic feelings for my ex. While it's true that I do love him, it's more like the love I have for my sisters and best friends, a familial love. :) It's been 16 long years since we were together, and I'm happy with where we are now," she wrote on the social media platform, Threads.

Geneva publicly reflected on her love life and her journey into relationships. Now 48 years old, she came to realize how vast her horizon really is as a single woman. There are a lot of possibilities that she's now open to experience.

"Perhaps women like me were born to be independent and self-sufficient, to buy and live in a house on a hill or on a beach, and be one with nature forever," she said. "Maybe I am meant to create my own path instead of following a man, to make a difference in the world, maybe watch my future grandchildren play, and grow old with my siblings and best friends. That sounds like a fun life to me, too."

But she's not one to dismiss the fact that she still longs for physical touch from a partner. "Although… I do long for the comforting embrace of a warm hug, the tender touch of holding hands, and the sweet sensation of a gentle kiss. These gestures of affection have been absent for far too long, and their absence is felt deeply within my heart."

Despite the current state of her love life, she wishes nothing but the best for KC. She is grateful to KC for teaching her what unconditional love actually means and feels. "I genuinely hope he and his partner have another child and live happily ever after. I mean it," she sincerely declared.
