  • New survey results by Mercari, an eBay-like app, shows that out of all the generations, millennials are the most sensitive to clutter impacting their sex drives.
  • I blame minimalism!

If you've ever hesitated inviting someone back to your place after a killer first date because you can't stop anxiously spiraling over how messy your place is, you're not alone. A new survey of over 1,000 adults conducted by YouGov and Mercari (an app that lets you sell your junk) found that 52 percent of both men and women are more likely to have sex with their partner in a cleaner, clutter-free home.

Also interesting? The finding that millennials are most sensitive to clutter, as it impacts their libidos more than boomers or seniors. The survey found that two-thirds (67 percent to be exact) of millennials said "they'd be more likely to have sex with their partner in a clean, clutter-free home," compared to 39 percent of boomers and 29 percent of seniors.

Among millennials, it also seems that men view clutter as a cockblock more than women, as 74 percent of men said clutter would stand in the way of getting it on, compared to 59 percent of women.

TBH, not that anyone asked me (I asked me), but I blame MINIMALISM for this. As a proud cluttery-slash-borderline-hoardery person, I think junk is fun. When you're first hanging out with someone, its presence—or lack thereof—is a great clue about your partner's personality.

All this said, don't feel pressure to sterilize your place in the name of getting some. The survey didn't specify if the clutter had to be your own or that of a partner. Meaning: Judgmental clutter-shaming may not be the reason you're not getting laid. Theoretically, it could be your own clutter that's keeping your own brain from feeling ~sexual~.

Bottom line: Try not to beat yourself up about your pile of not-dirty-but-dirty clothes on your chair, the dust-babies on your bookshelf, or your messy AF bathroom. You might actually be the one overthinking your own mess, and its time you let your libido free of housecleaning worries.
