Reputation has always been Taylor Swift’s best era and album IMHO (as a Swiftie), so needless to say, I’m super invested in the details of her newest romance with Travis Kelce, a full-on football star who seems to have been the unknowing subject of her hit song End Game (The lyrics just make *more* sense now, doesn’t it?).
Friendship bracelets, getaway cars, and a whole lot of sweet nothings from the bleachers that followed—consider me signed up for Tay’s ~*WAG*~ era, and I’m on the lookout for her latest NFL game appearance like any sports rom-com fan. As the Tay-Trav excitement reaches a fever pitch, we take a lil' trip back through time and context about sports' favorite OTPs.
What is a WAG?
Long before it became a trending term to the Gen Z Swifties, WAG has always been at the forefront of Western pop culture. FYI: It’s a British term for “wives and girlfriends” of famous athletes, an *elite* list that includes Posh Spice herself Victoria Beckham and, in the past, Kendall Jenner.
Despite being a cool status symbol now, WAGs didn't exactly start on the right footing, as these athlete sweethearts were depicted in a bad light. Take Footballers’ Wives, a low-budget TV drama in the early 2000s that didn't really have WAGs in their most poised states. At one point, David Beckham and his Brit team's loss was even attributed to the rowdy gestures that his wifey Victoria and her squad made (Oof.) You can't deny it, though: Despite all the naysayers, WAGs have always been on top of their game!
Amidst their *scene-stealing* appearances in stadiums and arenas, some WAGs are stars in their own right, too—making big impact even when they're not in cheerleader mode. Below, check out the most stylish Pinay WAGs on our radar.
