Ruru Madrid proves that he's such a lover boy to his long-term girlfriend, Bianca Umali. The Green Bones star just couldn't hide the love and admiration he has for his partner, especially when asked about how strong they are as a couple.
In an interview with PEP, Ruru reflected on their almost seven-year relationship. It might sound cliché, but the actor illustrated how they overcame a you-and-me-against-the-world kind of relationship in the beginning. And with that, Ruru dedicates his wins to Bianca, whom he sees as his saving grace.
"Sabi ko, si Bianca nagpabago sa buhay ko talaga. Kasi feeling ko, kung hindi dumating si Bianca sa buhay ko, hindi ko makakamit itong mga pangarap na ito," he told PEP. ICYMI, Ruru won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Green Bones in the recently held Metro Manila Film Festival 2024. And one of the best things about his award was how they sealed the milestone with a kiss as soon as he was called to the stage to receive his award, while Bianca was in happy tears for her beau.
Ruru expressed his lasting gratitude and appreciation for Bianca who had always been supportive of him and his endeavors in life—no matter how tough it got for them. The actor underscored how they experienced bashing and disapproval from people when they first started their relationship.

"Nagsimula kami na parang you and me against the world. Against sa amin lahat ng tao, na bina-bash kami, na parang nagkaagawan," he stated.
This, he said, was just one of the hurdles that they overcame since they know the truth better than anyone else. "Pero sabi ko nga, never kami pumatol, never kami nagsalita tungkol doon. Kasi alam ko na laging lalabas yung katotohanan at kung ano ba yung totoong nararamdaman namin sa isa't-isa."
Thankfully, Ruru feels the support now from the public for their relationship, noting that breakups are kind of a usual scenario nowadays within the showbiz industry.
"And nakakatuwa kasi ngayon nakikita na po ng mga tao, they're all rooting for us na sana habangbuhay na kami sa kabila ng mga...Siyempre nakakalungkot mang isipin, ang dami pong mga nagbe-break, especially sa mundo po na ginagalawan namin," he said to PEP.ph.
There's no secret to a strong and lasting relationship. But for Ruru, it's always about choosing your partner. In other words, love is a choice—and Ruru and Bianca are choosing each other. "It's not easy na ilaban po namin yung relasyon kasi, I guess, for me yung relationship, it's a choice. Not all the time mahal mo yung relationship, not all the time mahal niyo yung isa't isa. So, dapat niyong piliin yung isa't isa sa kabila ng mga problema at pagsubok sa araw-araw talaga," Ruru professed.
The two started dating in 2018. True enough, it wasn't a peaceful romance for the couple. Ruru once admitted to cheating on Bianca—he confessed that he made some moves on other girls while still in a relationship with Bianca. It was all cleared up to the public in a series of interviews with Boy Abunda in March 2023. They eventually worked it out and remained together.
