It’s easy to look at Kryz Uy and Slater Young and say that they’re totally ~*relationship goals*~, what with their strong chemistry and unwavering love for each other. From time to time, the power couple gives us a peek at what makes their marriage work, starting with their pieces of advice in their hit podcast Skypodcast.

Answering a letter sender who asked for tips on how to handle dating someone below her social status, the two stars shared their candid thoughts. Relating it to friendships, Slater started, “Sabi ng friend ko, ‘As you get older, yung friends mo, a lot of it nagma-matter yung income and their status, nothing about na nilu-look down or whatever’, sabi niya ‘If you're poorer than your friends, you tend to hang out less with them.’

"As we grow older, I feel like, in some way, totoo yung sinasabi niya. It matters to some extent especially when it comes to friends but in relationships, meron din syang malaking impact.”

Kryz agreed, “Money is so important to talk about even though it is a little awkward to talk about because it’s so taboo. But it’s important to know if your spending habits are the same, and if you have the same values towards money. Because in the future if you’re gonna share a life with this person, kailangan same kayo ng mindset. Maga-away lang kayo if you’re not the same eh.”

Further, Slater also mentioned love advice he learned from Laureen Uy’s mother. “Sabi ng mom ni Laureen, 'Don’t look for a guy who’s mayaman, look for a guy that’s hardworking.' Kahit papano, a guy who’s hardworking will know how to care of you, and will eventually succeed in life, or no matter where your place in life is, he will know how to make do with the situation. Aangat kayo together.”

Di naman kailangan successful yung guy and that you’ll date him because he’s rich. As long as you know that he has the capacity to work hard or he’s going somewhere, then that's good enough.”

According to the engineer-vlogger, coming from an unprivileged background comes with advantages, too. “People with humble beginnings have a lot of pros na madadala nila sa relationship. Yung humility na kasama dyan, yung hard work, drive to succeed.”

For the couple, dating someone affluent isn’t the end all be all of a happy relationship. “We also know a lot of people who marry super rich and they’re miserable. It doesn’t equate that money is happiness or if you’ll date a guy who’s all set for life, magiging masaya ka sa relationship. Di naman causality yun.”

“So whatever social status you have, meron talagang pros and cons, and whatever relationship you have there are challenges naman talaga. Money matters but it’s not the important part of the relationship.”
