ICYMI, there's a new Gossip Girl in town—that's right, a reboot is on the way. Did I hear a Hallelujah? The limited-edition series will feature 10 one-hour episodes, and it will take place eight years after the original addictive drama ended. And as fans will tell you, the fabulous and OTT designer outfits the characters wore played a close second to the stream of outrageous drama the show churned out.
While the show will still center around a group of privileged teens living in New York City, the new cast already appears more diverse than the old cast—which we love. From what we've seen so far, the new cast will continue the show's tradition of wearing some major designer looks—just with an updated 2021 spin on style.
In a teaser clip, we see new character Julien Calloway, played by Jordan Alexander, lounging on the famous Met steps with a shaved head and knee-high, kitten heeled cream boots. A fair departure from the old show's styling, then, which featured almost exclusively candy-colored prep school looks (Blair Waldorf and her crew), or early-noughties bohemian hits (Serena van der Woodsen, Vanessa Abrams, and the Humphrey men).
Famed costume designer Eric Daman, who created the original series' oft-copied looks, will be joining the team again for HBO Max's reboot. We can't wait to see how he will style the new cast, who are growing up in a very different New York to the old cast.
While we wait, let's do a nostalgic deep-dive and revisit some of Gossip Girl's original iconic looks. Hold on to your plaid skirts and click through for a blast from the past.

Summer in the Hamptons
In the opening episode to series two, leading ladies Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen spend a summer in the Hamptons - complete with very boujie, very Blair-and-Serena-esque wardrobes. (See: Serena's Chanel puzzle tote).

Modern Bohemian Muse
When she wasn't busy breaking hearts and taking names, Serena was busy inventing the word bohemian. (Not really, but she did kind of always look like she was starring in an Anthropologie catalog shoot.) Messy hair, long 'arty' necklaces, and rock and roll' vests were all 2008 SVW staples. They say, "I'm filthy rich and my parents have art world connections."

The Humble Humphreys
Ahhh, the humble Humphreys from Brooklyn. Here we see Lonely Boy in his disheveled St. Jude's uniform (and those messenger bags that all boys wore on TV in 2008). And his sweet sister Jenny, back when she was just a shy 'good girl', sewing her own clothes and doing the most to fit in.

Jenny's Makeover
...and later, when Jenny decided she did not GAF what anyone thought of her anymore. Jenny's style turned gradually darker as her character endured bullying from Blair and her crew. Queue her controversial (and much-discussed) platinum hair extensions, smudge-y goth makeup, and fishnets galore.

Princess Bride
Blair surprisingly went through with her marriage to the devious Prince Louis gutted. We all know it was Chuck Bass who should have been standing at the altar with her in this frothy Vera Wang concoction.

A Lot of Black
Evil schemer Georgina Sparks, played by Michelle Trachtenberg, favored plenty of black, studs galore, and giant statement necklaces. (Didn't we all in 2009?) Oh, and super-high heels for casual daytime outings, because this is American television, after all.

Pastels and Brights
Our favorite on-again, off-again Upper East Side twosome: Chuck and Blair. The power couple definitely had A Look™ : filthy rich, and unapologetically preppy. Chuck wasn't afraid of dandy pastels (or white shoes, for that matter), and Blair loved color-clash accessories.

That *Iconic* Yellow Ruffle Dress
At Serena's mum's controversial wedding to Bart Bass, Serena wore this ruffle-neck Ralph Lauren gown straight off the catwalk. The black gloves, belt, and flower detail were all part of the original runway look.

Preppy Chic
Barrel-iron curls. Frilly socks over tights. A crook-of-the-arm bag hold. What's not to love about this Jenny Humphrey throwback?

Stylish Schemers
Queen B and her minions always looked chic, even while scheming. Alice bands, pie-crust collars, and Ferragamo bags (carried on the crook of the arm, ofc) always accompanied their worst-laid plans.
