We often see celebrities clad in outfits featuring designer items that cost a fortune. It seems that there is an expectation that showbiz personalities *should* at least own an expensive designer bag. Cristine Reyes begs to differ.

Cristine says designer items are not her thing, more so, it's not something she needs. "Parang mare-realize mo na, ano itong mga ito? Hindi ko ito kailangan sa buhay. Kailangan ko makasama yung mga mahal ko sa buhay. Hindi itong mga makamundong gamit na ito," she remarked during an episode of Magandang ARAw with her sister Ara Mina.

Typhoon Ondoy changed Cristine Reyes' perspective on owning material things

Her remark comes from experiencing life-threatening events. These incidents affected her mindset and showed what's significant in the grand scheme of life.

"So 'yung mga things na mga, like mostly na nakikita natin sa social media, sa mga tao na pini-flex nila and all, parang for me, wala siyang importance," Cristine declared.

Cristine recounted the time when her home was struck by Typhoon Ondoy in September 2009. It was when she lost her "most favorite" car that she realized how pointless it is to hold onto material things.

"Siguro ang learnings doon is hindi ka talaga puwede mag-hold on to material things in your life because bagung-bago yung kotse ko noon. Sobrang favorite car ko... Six months pa lang. Parang ako, wala, there's nothing you can do if things like that happen. 'Yun, 'yung learnings ko parang sometimes you have to let go," Cristine recalled.

The difference between Ara Mina's buying habits and Cristine Reyes' shopping preferences

The sisters also talked about their differences when it comes to their consumption habits. Cristine shared that her older sister, Ara, was the one who would often buy designer items, to the point that her room would look like a boutique! Meanwhile, Cristine is the type who owns a *few* luxury items. "Piling-pili lang," as she described it.

"Parang pag pumasok ka sa bahay niya, lalo na sa kuwarto niya, parang nasa boutique ng Louis Vuitton, ng Gucci. Parang ganun dati," Cristine revealed. Ara assured that during the pandemic, she had found the courage and the logic to let most of her collection go, and now keeps only a few.

Cristine Reyes' on fashion influencers

Despite all her views, Cristine acknowledges that there are influencers whose jobs are to promote designer items. "I mean, gets ko naman 'yung mga influencers kasi parang job na nila 'yun, 'di ba?"

However, she furthered by pointing out how people looking up to these influencers potentially becomes a problem nowadays. "Ang problem lang kasi, people look up to them. So, 'yung mga cannot have [designer items], they feel na parang, ah, para silang napag-iiwanan. Hindi sila okay in life because wala sila 'nun."

"But in reality, hindi mo kailangan 'nun. Talaga, it's just their job," Cristine strongly noted.

What Cristine considers worth spending money

Putting aside her thoughts on luxury items, Cristine admits that she still shops for comfort. She says that she spends money mostly on furniture and materials that could uplift the interior of her house. And it's not something she does for others to see, but only for her to enjoy amid her hectic life as an actress.

"Well, 'yun, magastos ako sa interior ng bahay. Magastos ako. Gumagastos ako sa bahay kasi gusto ko lagi lang nasa bahay," she stated.
