Boxers or briefs? For Heart Evangelista, the answer is clear as day. The style maven recently uploaded a photo of herself posing next to Hermès executive Michael Coste in a pair of baggy trousers with her boxers peeking out, making a strong case for the visible underwear trend.
What is the visible underwear trend?
First introduced between the '90s and the early Y2K, the trend was mainly worn by hip-hop icons and fans. But back then, it wasn’t called the “visible underwear trend,” and instead, cool kids called it “sagging.” It was the era of baggy and low-rise jeans, as while men exposed their boxers, girls would show off their thongs.
Not everybody was too keen on this trend, however, as many saw it as a sign of delinquency. But today, it’s making a comeback—not just in the realm of hip-hop and rap, but on runways of designer brands and the feeds of It Girls, too.
Spotted in Miu Miu and Gucci's Fall/Winter 2023 collections, the visible underwear trend is no longer limited to just thongs and boxers, but it has transcended to stockings, lace underwear, and even your regular old briefs.
Netizens React to Heart Evangelista’s Visible Boxers OOTD
Although netizens had mainly positive reactions to Heart’s peekaboo underwear moment, not everybody is a fan of this particular visible underwear trend. Some poked fun at her loose trousers, saying “'Yung [boxer] shorts mo madam kita na [laughing emoji]” or even going as far as to say they look like diapers. But there were plenty who also applauded the fashionista’s bold styling choice.
The visible underwear trend isn’t a look that anybody can easily pull off, but if you ask us, she sure knows how to carry it well—especially when she pairs the 'fit with a rare Himalaya Birkin!
