Finding the perfect Valentine's outfit is one of those wardrobe dilemmas that only crops up once a year (obvs) and, without fail, I always seem to find myself at a loss for what to wear. You'd think that, by now, I'd have the whole thing down pat but, alas. Perhaps it's because plans can vary year to year (sometimes with your relationship status), making the outfit brief far from straightforward. Or perhaps it's because our style can fluctuate a whole lot in 12 months. Maybe it's both.

So, this year I've decided to bite the bullet and sit down to properly research outfit ideas for a whole slew of Valentine's Day plans. From Galentine's drinks at a cool bar in town and a cute dinner date with your S.O or bestie, to watching a movie at the cinema - we've got you covered.

Read on to see a slew of stylish outfits you can copy and paste this Valentine's Day, so you can spend less time standing in front of your cupboard wearing just a towel, waiting for the right clothes to 'jump out at you' and more time enjoying yourself.

6 Cute Valentine's Day Outfits To Try

  1. The cinema

What better way to spend Valentine's Day than with a huge box of popcorn in one hand and a bag of Malteasers in the other as you kick back and watch a fab movie? Answer: none (IMO, anyway). As you'll be sitting down for most of the eve, you might wanna steer away from restrictive waistbands, opting instead for comfy, relaxed wide-leg trousers. Oh, and a sure-fire way to nail a casual date-night look is with a bit of monochromatic color blocking.

  2. Galentine's drinks

We love an excuse to go for cocktails with the gals, almost as much as a reason to get all dressed up, and Valentine's Day (or Galentine's) is a perfect opportunity for both. If you haven't already, book yourself a table at a cute bar and go suited and booted. The structured silhouette of an oversized blazer and relaxed trousers pairs perfectly with a strappy crop top or bralette. If drinks end in dancing, you can ditch the jacket and work up a sweat.

  3. Gallery exhibition

An afternoon spent wandering around a museum or art gallery is food for the soul and a fun way to soak up a bit of culture with your valentine. To get those creative juices flowing I say whip out the items you've been dying to wear and throw 'em all in. It’s time to clash materials and prints. If you can't wait to wear some of your spring/summer pieces - like romantic ruffles and pastel colors - rework them for these colder days, layered over warm, wide-leg jeans and pair with a heavy-duty leather jacket.

  4. Relaxing at home

You've likely seen the internet buzz around The Last of Us, and if you prefer your Valentine's Day with a dose of zombies and some end-of-the-world apocalypse fun, staying in to watch the latest episode could be what you've got lined up. Alternatively, you might fall on the other end of the spectrum and wanna binge watch Bling Empire: New York (we get you). Whatever's on your watch list, we recommend sporting slouchy loungewear for maximum chillaxed vibes.

  5. Dinner date

Going out for dinner is a classic Valentine's Day plan, be it with your bae or mates. If you've been living in jeans this season (like us) then hitting up a nice restaurant could be a great chance to switch things up and sport one of your fave glam dresses. Go for long sleeve or high necks, because it's not quiiiite summer yet and finish with a pair of heels. If you're still having slipper withdrawal and need your toes to be as comfy as possible, swap the heels for some sleek boots.

  6. Shopping trip

This might not be surprising but, as a Fashion Editor, buying clothes brings me so much joy. Whether I'm looking for something in particular, or am just in the mood to browse a vintage market to see what treasures I find, shopping is one of my favorite ways to spend a day. If you're the same, you know you want a pair of comfy flats - that are easy to get on and off, FYI - and a cool, vintage t-shirt that'll go nicely with anything you try on. Add a leather midi skirt and you've got an effortlessly glam 'fit, in case you want to take this day-date on to evening drinks.
